Problem removing wiring harness to headlights

Hi, I'm replacing my 04 headlights with a set from an 06. I just can't seem to unplug the main wiring harness from the headlights. I was able to pull the headlight out far enough to stick my hand in there, but no matter how hard i try, I can't seem to unplug it. I even tried to use a long screwdriver to try to wedge it in there to pull the plug out but even that didn't work. Anyone have any tips on disconnecting the wiring harness? Thanks.

Did you take a look at the DIY tread for removing headlight housing?

Yeah, I did. As a matter of fact, that's what I use to get the bumper off and remove the bolts holding the headlights in. I just can't seem to get the harness off of the headlight.

ya the main clip for the harness is a bitch

With the help of Silvernole12, I was finally able to remove them last night. The key is to pop off the plug on the headlight assembly so that you'll get more slack to work with. You just need to use a screwdriver to push it off. Then you have to turn the harness over and push the plastic lock in the back and unplug. I've attached a picture of me holding the plug so you can get a better idea of what I'm talking about. Thanks again Silvernole12!

Hi Sooner97. Did you notice a green colored wire that is connected only on one end in the D2S bulb placement area? Im trying to figure out if I need to plug this in some place. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I have always used a 45 pick to get the plug off. You need to not have any tension on it or it will stick.

that may be the grounding wire that connects to the ignitor coming from the ballast

Thanks. Another member mentioned that and I hope thats the case. So when I remove the ballast from my 04 headlights, I have to connect that green wire to a corresponding wire on the ballast? It has a female connector on the end so Im hoping to find a male connector on the ballast side.

Sorry to jack your thread Sooner97. :)

No problem, aenokea, it sounds like you're missing the wire that connects the bulb to the ballast. You'll just have to replace it with the ones in your current headlights. The easiest thing to do is to remove your old lights and take a look at how it's connected. Unscrew the ballast and look underneath it. That's where the green wire is attached to. Everything is the same, so you'll just have to reuse your ballast and the HID wire. Hope that helps.

Im going to give that a try as soon as I have time. How do you like your new lights? Did you use the OEM bulbs or did you opt for some aftermarket ones? I have some Philip Ultinon 6000k's that I plan on using. Im just not sure about the city light. I might pull that out completely and not run anything.

ill be upgrading to 06-07 headlights soon...this thread was very helpful and has been added to my favorites :) thnx

I love how they look, and they're a big improvement on my old ones. It seems that it spreads the light wider so the road is lit up a lot more. I'm really glad I replaced them. I used the stock 85122+ main blubs but I replaced the fogs with Luminics Pure Blue 6000K and the city lights with PIAA Xtreme White 168 bulbs. I'm really pleased with the results. The fogs don't match the main lights exactly, there is a slight blue to them but you don't really notice it until you get pretty close to the car. The color matching is close enough for me. If anyone has any problems installing them, feel free to respond to this thread or PM me. It's a pretty easy project once you know what you're doing. I just don't want to see anyone else waste as much time as I did trying to get that harness off.

Sooner, I still cannot get the harness off even after getting more slack from the wires. What are the plastic locks in the back that you are talking about? Am I suppose to push on something while pulling the harness back? This is fustrating!!! Help!
