Anyone tried LED's in their turn signals?
 

So I was thinking about trying some of VLED's new 7440 18 LED surface mount LED's in my front and rear turn signals.

Has anyone else tried them or something like them? The only reason I want to do this is more output. I have tinted both my front and rear signals and would like to make them brighter.

I know in most cases the LED’s don’t do as good of a job but some of the new VLED stuff is awesome. Being that they are $30-35/pr it would be nice to get some input before I buy.

What is it you're trying to achieve? Brighter light? The instant on/off look? Idk if you have the stock orange lens in the front, but I assume there wont be too much difference in light output... on a side note... does anyone know if it would be illegal if I were to stick a red bulb in there (CA)?

You must signal amber from the front and red or amber from the rear so if you did red on the front it would be illegal.

Yes you are spot on, I am trying to get more output and that instant on/off look.

I attempted my front ones this weekend with 24 led bulbs (vleds) but they caused a short whatever way I put them in (since leds have polarity). They seemed to make all the proper contact points also. I have to go get more fuses before I can try anything else!

Those 18SMTs ok. Autolumination sells the same ones, FXs use that bulb for the clearance lights.

I'm fairly certain is it the one on the left in this picture. The SMTs looked a little greenish.

Load resistor will be needed in the blinker circuit, but I'm sure you already know. :)

Which ones were the brightest out of all that you have tried? I need one like the 18SMT ones because the G's front bilnker bulbs face up.

just splice in the load resistors to simulate the load of a standard bulb and you will be fine

Since LED use less current than standard bulbs, the car is tricked into thinking there is a bulb 'out' causing the blinkers to flash quicker than usual. A load resistor takes up extra current so the car will think that its a regular bulb, and your turn signals will blink normally.

I installed a set of V-LED AMBER SMT 18 LED bulbs in my 06 headlights. They really fill the housing nice. They are real bright and instant on/off. The only problem is that they blink super fast so I need to order some load resistors. I try not to use my blinkers because I don't want to look like a ricer. AMBER FTW.

So so they appear to be any brighter than your oem bulbs?

honestly, i swapped them out in the 06 headlights before installing the 06's so I don't have an accurate comparison. I will say that when they light up (turn signal or hazards), they light up the entire housing. They are a real nice shade of amber and they are instant on/off. If you do get them, make sure to order load resistors.
