LED Replacement Questions
So I was thinking of replacing a batch of the lights in my cars with LEDs, I might do the rest later, but for now, I'm aiming for the exterior and interior ones that get used the most.
That is: 3175 Festoon (31mm) for the map(dome) lights and doors and 194/168 for the license plate, city light, and side marker. I was going to use VLEDs as I heard good things about them for the most part... The doors/interior will be replaced with the HID WHITE SMT 6 Bulbs and the license plate with the HID WHITE HIGH POWER 194/168 Bulbs My question is for the sidemarkers and city lights inside the headlight, can I use the same bulb as the license plate type or is there a better bulb (ie better light distribution) for those applications? Thanks in advance. |
no one?

yep 194/168 will work fine for the city lights and license plate.
BUT make sure they are small enough to fit in the city lights, I just bought some LEDs that did NOT fit in my city lights: http://a763.g.akamai.net/7/763/1644/...35708/size/224 $24 shipped and dont even fit :( |
I guess my question isn't whether the bulbs are 194/168, as I know that part is correct. The problem is that in that category there is a huge variety of lights that encompass that base with varying output patterns.
The ones I linked are directional forward, and it seems great for something like a license plate where you just need light to be just in the path of the bulb forward. But for something like a city light, I'm wondering if that bulb may be too directional and not spread the light around enough in the housing so it will look dim all around and then bright as hell head on? So my question is that should I stick with the same bulbs I'm getting for the plate as the ones for my sidemarkers and city lights or is there another 194/168 bulb with a different light output pattern that people have found to be better suited for those applications, similar to the tower one you posted, but maybe shorter so it fits? Thanks for the advice on that particular bulb being too tall though...hopefully they take it back from you. |
I am also going to be replacing a large amount of LEDS in my car...
Try : LED Light Also : Autolumination They have a wide variety of lights ranging from Turn Signals & Reverse Lights to Interior Lights Hope that helps |
^ Again, the light type/store is fine for me. Just trying to figure out the spread pattern for each application.

I'm in the same boat did you ever find the answer?
|
Nope, not any closer. No one seems to have an answer...
Luckily this particular 'mod' is low priority right now, so I have time to wait I guess until I figure it out. That being said...anyone with any more advice on bulb spread for sidemarkers and city light? |

Hey guys. I swapped out my clearance strip (city lights) with single directional 194s and think they look great. I used the same ones for the side markers and the plates as well. http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...32235246235248 I used the exact same ones you linked to for my domes and courtesy lights in the doors but used blue instead of white. I am happy with the results and they are plenty bright at night using single direction output as the lens on the city and sides do help spread the light a bit. If you want total coverage a single bulb will never do it. You will have to go with CCFL or multiple LED strips. Both have been done so search for CCFL and it should give you some examples. Its not exactly a plug n play option though and definitely more time and money will be involved. For now, I have attached some pictures of mine as examples. Hope that helps. :)

I have 06-07 projectors and i want to swap the city light out, it doesn't look like anything is blocking it from being too big, can anyone confirm that you can get basically any length of led 194 and it will fit inside the housing. also to replace this bulb do i have to take the headlight apart or does it unscrew from the back?
