Aftermarket Ballasts for the lowbeams. Can't figure it out :l
Here is the relay harness I have sitting here. I labeled everything hoping someone can tell me if I'm wrong somewhere. I also can't figure out how to plug into the OEM harness... And searching doesn't give me useful results. I'm really just LOST. Need help asap...

yeah wtf am I looking at here?

Everything is right, you just need to supply the connector in question with power. If the car was non hid from oem, just tap into the wires directly connected to either low beam bulb. Can't get actual colors right now but if you have a multi meter it will be easy to tell which is +\-
The cubes are the relays and they don't mount to anything in particular, just try to mount them in a spot away from moisture and heat. |
OEM '06 projectors, so they were HID from OEM. Regardless, do I still "just tap into the wires directly connected to either low beam bulb"? I thought I was connecting to OEM harness.

Why are you using aftermarket ballasts? You can just plug the factory lead off the factory ballast into the bulbs as long as they are D2S.
If not, find a multimeter and use a wire that is only hot when the headlights are turned on. You should be able to pick it up where the factory harness plugs into the ballast. If you cant find the right wire by tomorrow ill look through the wiring diagrams for you. Right now, im about to pass the fvck out from being up 28 hours. |
I decided to try aftermarket ballasts for fun (turns out it's not fun) and started wiring things up; too late to turn back to my OEM ballasts now.
On the bright side, I got everything wired up now! On the down side, only one headlight is functioning properly, which is the passenger side. The driver side headlight is still acting goofy; Flickering when turned on and then it turns off by itself (passenger side doesn't flicker at all, and stays on). After messing around for a couple of hours, I decided to get some rest and continue tomorrow after work because I wasn't making any progress. I switched bulbs between the two sides and the driver side still does the same thing. So for now, I'm thinking the ballast is bad. Maybe I can get some more info before I order ANOTHER one on Monday. Thanks for your help AreSicks. Your comments were like a bop to my head; everything was much simpler than I was making it. Except for my driver side of course. Anyway, I really appreciate you taking your time to help me out! Glad I could sort that out before you went and did some diagram browsing (because I tried that and my brain exploded). Rest well! |
No problem brotha.
Swap ballasts from side to side to see if it follows. Usually when the flickering happens it means the ballast is not getting enough juice, but the relay harness is made specifically to combat that issue instead of powering the ballasts through the tiny factory wiring. If it doesn't follow sides with the ballast, check that ground and make sure its got a good metal to metal connection. Sand the contact point and clean it real good, pretty much the only other thing it could be... Unfortunately, unless you went with a really high end kit, the OEM ballasts are FAR better quality than any aftermarket kit you will buy. Same goes for the bulbs. If you can I would just solder the factory wires back up and run the OEM ballasts. |
