Question 2005 6MT Owners with upgraded shift *****

After a ton of searching, i still don't have a definitive answer:

How do i pull off the shifter trim?

I've heard i just pull up and out on the ring with some force and it should snap off. Before i try this, i wanted some feedback on if this is a good idea and even the correct way to do it?

I've had my Nismo Ti **** for two weeks and haven't put it on yet

All the details/instructions i got so far are for the 03-04's.

Grab the shifter trim rim at the 6 o'clock position and it pulls right out.

I am in the same situation. I have had a new shifter to put on, but cant get the old one off. How hard do you need to pull to get it off? I dont want to jack it up or anything if I am doing it wrong.

Please exercise due caution when attempting to swap out the shift ****. The shift linkage can be damaged if too much forced is used when twisting the existing shift **** off. The shifter shaft should be isolated. Pop the shifter trim off, as previously mentioned. Use a pair of Vise Grips or other locking plier type tool and tightly clamp the shifter shaft from beneath the shifter boot. Wrap the existing shift **** with a piece of rubber or some other protective covering. Use a large pair of pliers, channel locks, etc. to grab the shifter ****. While holding on to the Vise Grips ( Do not allow the shaft to turn) twist the shift **** in a counter clockwise direction to remove.

Here is a pic of the Stainless steel shift **** that I installed. It's a pretty simple and worthwhile mod.

That's exactly what i did. I didn't use the channel locking pliers the whole way, just enough to get it loose so that i could twist with my hands the rest of the way. Ofcourse i was holding the vise grips the whole time.

I'll take some pics tomorrow when there's more light out.
