Got tired of my G looking like everyone else's so I have started making some changes

This isn't going to be for everyone but I like it so that is all that matters. I got tired of my G being confused for others in my area. For example I had people saying, "Hey I saw you driving Sunday night....." when my car was actually at home all day. So this is the start of my changes. I bought a used set of Five Axis Design wheels off craigslist. They were in pretty rough shape but I didn't care because I was planning to powdercoat them anyway.
Pictures of the test fitting. Attachment 195438 Attachment 195439 Attachment 195440 They looked pretty good as is, and matched well but they didn't accomplish the goal of looking different than the rest of the graphite G coupes. So out they went for powdercoating. When I got them back they looked like this and I had one of those, "Oh no, what have I done?" moments. Attachment 195441 Attachment 195442 Attachment 195443 Attachment 195444 Fonts are 19x9.5 +25mm with 255/35/19 BFG's and the rears are 19x10.5 +23mm 285/35/19 Then I added some orange vinyl to the fenders to try to blend in the shocking difference of color. These photos are from today after washing. They are just crap phone pics but I will take some more with a real camera after some more mods. WoW, can't miss that.

um i'd say powdercoat the calipers next, but I have no CLUE what color would look good.
From what I've seen, to pull off aftermarket wheels you really need sideskirts, front bumper and rear bumper or it looks out of place on a vehicle with a stock profile. |
front bumper and sides are happening soon but not until I redo the brakes and suspension. Rear will probably stay stock. Calipers probably wont be changing colors. I was going to at first but I don't think the factory gold looks bad so it's not worth the cost or the downtime to do it.

Don't worry we won't jock your style .. I give you respect for being different
|
If you like it, that's really all that matters.
|
this is one of those times I'd rather follow the crowd...
|
Well they definitely won't mistake you for anyone else now :icon43:
Still it's better than a lot of attempts that I have seen of people running loud colored wheels on their cars. |
LOL. They can spot you from days away.
If you like it, thats all that matters. |
I should probably clarify the real reason for doing this. It wasn't so people would just know who I was and I wouldn't be mistaken for anyone else. It was really for two reasons.
1. If my car could easily be mistaken for any other modified gray coupe then what is the point in customizing a car? We do it to make it our own, but if its just like the rest then who cares? That feeling I got when people said, "Hey I saw you driving" and it wasn't me was just depressing when you realize its because everyone else looks the same. 2. I was getting bored with the car. It was either sell it or start modifying in a different direction than previous. |
Not for me BUT props for going against the grain and making the car stand out. Looks like your G is rocking a new pair of Nike Free Runs lol
|
do you have previous pics of it? looks stock with wheels and hood / lights?
|
lose the vinyl..

Dare to be Different, and you are! There's a gazillion gray coupes in the world, now your's is unique. Enjoy the ride!

I like it, minus the stripes. The orange it really nice. And I agree with you 100% I hate when people confuse my coupe with others as well
But I do agree that if you change the color of the calipers it'll really pop. Gold and orange don't really flow well. A darker color would look good. I did my brembos mag blue Attachment 195340 Just me 2 cents |
