On the surface it may seem like coilovers make sense money-wise... but in reality its more expensive in the long run...
With springs and shocks/struts, you can replace the struts when they go bad - and its easy to find a pair... with coilovers you have to replace the entire assembly and its not as easy (or as cheap) to find just a pair.
The benefit of coilovers is more the adjustability and performance/customization than cost savings.

Yeah BC's offer shock replacement for $99. One of the reasons why I got them, if I ever blow a shock it would be easily replaceable at a great price. Other companies I'm sure about the availability and cost of their replacement parts.
