Low Cruisin' In My G: Cruising's Build Thread

Just Contributing to the forum, hopefully my posts will aid someone doing a random search for something I just happened to mention someday...

Bought this '03 A/T in great condition in 2010 after owning a modified 330ci and supercharged IS300 (lost both to extenuating circumstances. I said to myself I wont modify this car, but needless to say it got boring.

Current mods:
Stillen intake tube
HKS sport exhaust
Tien basis coil overs
Eibach rear camber and toe kit

Initially started with the eibach sedan prokit, but it wasnt low enough plus the front was too high. Got the coil overs a few months after that in summer '12. Purchased a set of Volk GT-AV in 19/8.5 +23, 9.5 +24 with 225/40 and 255/35. Didn't know what I wanted to do with the car yet so I tried the roof rack fad. Some people liked it on my car, I thought it was lame after a few weeks and took it off and went back to almost stock ride height for winter 2012/2013.

Then I bought a set of Volk GT-7 19/8.5+20's,10.5+20's. Sent both the GT-7 and GT-AV to refinish in alien silver and replace the black hardware with silver. Both sets are for sale by the way

My cousin who also has a sedan suggested I get a Nismo/rep kit like his green sedan... ended up just painting the sills and getting an ebay data systems rep lip, and removing the door moldings. (1/2013)

lip not installed yet, put on spacers right after this 20mm front, 25mm(used 15mm hub ring)rear.

Still bored with the car so I decided a more current wheel is what I needed. So I ordered the SSR SP3 19/9.5 +30, 10+24 (3/2013), hoping to have them by the summer

Sorry for the lame pics so far :28: I'll photograph some content once my wheels are done being refinished if no one purchases them. On the SSR I'm thinking to use 245/35 and 275/30 or a 235/35 and 265/30 if I add a 10mm spacer up front and cant clear the 275 in the rear at the ride height I like.

Looked really good with the roof rack. I'm really digging those GT-7s... Definitely interested.

^ Yeah, some people like it, its all relevant to taste. I think a cleaner look that isn't trying to hard to fit in is what I need. Pm'd you on the wheels.

loving the roof rack with the longboards on top.

Wi-Z_Sam Mar 10, 2013 11:26 AM

Got any pictures of the GT-7 on the car?

CruisinG Mar 10, 2013 05:34 PM

^ No pictures of it on the car but when I did test fit at my current ride height it stuck out probably three inches. I'll satisfy the thread with some photos soon.

I woulda stuck with the GTAVs, I've always liked those.

Just and FYI, your cousin is running the Stillen rear lip. It's not a Nismo rep.

CruisinG Mar 10, 2013 11:00 PM

^ Thanks I am aware of that... I still like the GTAV considering that they are very rare but I'd definitely love to get them re-barreled to have more lip in the front

Here are some pics of my IS3 made about 312hp... now that I look back I wonder why I never took any better photos of my cars especially since I am a photographer/graphic designer

Great start man.

If you dont mind me asking how did it run you to paint the lower sills? I always wanted to know but didn't feel like a going to a shop. I always end of up going to horrible shops whenever i do go.

^ Well they did more than just paint the bottom so I can guess it would be around $250-$350 with prep, materials and labor included depending on the shop

Exactly what I had done was to paint the hood that was full of rock chips, trunk which had a deep scratch, repair and paint the rear bumper which also had a crack, all fenders and quarter panels, paint lip and polish the roof. So I can't accurately tell you what portion of the total cost would be just for the lower panels. Total was $2500

Also I scraped a wooden utility pole trying to get a parking space in front of my home before someone else took it :banghead: The pole stands at the corner of my driveway entrance. I never hit that pole in 10 years. So its back in the shop as of last friday. Door edge and panel were bent inwards.

Anyone in the NY/NJ/CT or further areas want to come out to these meets/shows in the coming months. As I mentioned I'm a photographer/designer part time but a full time grad student/student teacher so I rarely attend these but I have another friend who wants to get together with new people and go to these.

Look good with the rack, i like it

CruisinG Mar 14, 2013 10:32 PM

My car is finally back home lip installed. For anyone who for some reason may ask about spacers in the future and needs pic you can see here how flush it is 20mm front, 25 rear. I googled "g35 sedan n1 lip" its hard to find a clear close pic on a sedan where the lip is painted, very strange.

also picked up something to add to my interior

Checked out my wheel progress today, just waiting on the lips to be polished then install new hardware, new center caps, and rays valve stems. Now that I have this lip, I decided to get the stillen rear. Which leaves me wondering if I should get replica sides or make do with some 2005 sides. I'm not feeling the stillen sides too much.

Just added a stillen rear lip, when I ordered it there was only one left along with a pair of sides, but I really didnt like the lines of the sides. I think if looks clean but nismo/rookie sides would surely take it up another notch

In the installation I noticed some issues with keeping consistent fitment with pressure all around I think thats do to the material being so flappy. So I ended up with a slight little gap on the driver side. I'm overall happy with the fit, and almost ready for the warm season. Next up are to replace my rear speakers which have mysteriously gone out, get a front stb, and a coupe mid pipe (instead of a sedan for obvious reasons) to correct my CEL from an evap leak where the midpipe connects to the muffler.
