Went to Meguiar's...the people that make all of the awesome car care products. Every Thursday night they host a detailing class. It was incredibly informative, met a lot of car care geeks (I mean that in a nice way), and now I know how to REALLY take car of my interior and exterior. I attended the June 21st class.

No...that isn't my garage, but MAN...I wish it was.

After we finished claying and waxing the hood, it was amazing how many paint defects there are just in the hood alone...if you look very very close. It looks like they painted the car in an area that had dust floating around. You can actually see raised areas in the paint where some kind of dust particles were captured under the paint. Kind of sad for a $35K+ car.

Even after the original dealer detail and my washing my car once a week and then a spray wax touch up, the clay and wax we did on my hood was hugely different from the other areas of the car we didn't work on.

They recommend a clay and wax every 4-6 months (depending on if your car is out during the day a lot...which mine is), and some kind of quick wax type product every couple of weeks. The clay didn't require a lot of pressure, just their quik detail product to give the clay some moisture. He said most people use way too much wax...just a dab will do ya. No big long swooping lines to apply or remove the wax. Circular motions are best. They recommend lambs wool wash mits only, and no taking your car to the hands-free car wash. He liked the NXT wax for my car. Supposedly their new Ultimate Quik Detail product is awesome.

By the way, the supposed leather seats in our cars aren't all leather. One of the interior detail guys was showing me that roughly half of the seat is leather and the other half is vinyl. You can tell by pressing your thumb against the stitching pretty firmly and you'll see a different response to this pressure on the vinyl and leather segments. Again, WTF on a $35K+ car??!!

You dont have to press on it, it's obvious just by touching it. Most *** cars do that install leather only in areas that are in contact with body the rest is vinyl. My other e90 covered in pure dakota leather all over the place but you pay premium for that, thats why I bought my G striped with 6 spd manual and sport package only for little more than $30K.

Everyone does that. It isn't until you get into the $60k+ range that most cars have full leather standard.
