Seized flywheel
Seized flywheel
At 48k I started to notice a burnt clutch smell from my 2007 G35S 6mt sedan. I took it in and told them that there was an odd rattle as well. I was told that it was normal. Then at 52k miles I noticed in the mornings and late at night (cold) conditions in December here in WA, there was an odd grinding noise upon cold start up and first gear engagement. I took it to the dealer where they duplicated the noise and it turns out the "high performance" clutch and flywheel were toast. At 53k miles it was covered under warranty, but I was told a flywheel spring was defecctive and the clutch had to be pulled apart with a crowbar. If you have any concerns with your clutch take it in folks. I was told it was normal twice before infiniti realized it really wasn't. I've got a new clutch system and slave cylinder. I couldn't believe the difference with a "properly functioning" clutch. I did buy used so I took the chance. Lucky I was under warranty still. Drives clean now and I really appreciate how smooth the clutch is now.
Glad to hear everything worked, thats the down side of buying a used performance car, since the you never know how the previous owner drove it and how much he/she abused it before selling, especially on the MT's is the previous owner was a bad driver.
For me, the clutch/car runs as good as new at over 52k.

Yeah I know I bought a used car and completely understand that everyone has different driving habits. It wasn't a real surprise to me considering it is a sports car. The dealership I went through has a pretty solid reputation and once they discovered it was a real concern, they did everything they could to make sure it was taken care of. Hopefully everything works out with the new clutch, so far so good.
