Thinking about new paint color

I was thinking about getting my Blue Slate G35 painted a new shade of blue because I'm a bit bored of the color and the paint is a bit worn now with scratches, chips, and dings. I also think that the Blue Slate is a very high-maintenance color being just about as bad as black, in that it looks great when clean and waxed, but gets dirty very easily. I figured a different shade of blue might be lower maintenance and be more unique for the model. I had a buddy try to PhotoShop it into a couple different colors, but they may not look exactly right and would probably look better in real life, especially the LeMans Blue. Am I crazy for even considering changing the color?

Current Blue Slate:

Royal T Blue that I found on a GTR, close to Bayside Blue:

BMW LeMans Blue. This PS doesn't look quite right, but I think it would look much better done in real life:

I like the BMW blue

The real bmw lemans blue should look good with blacked out grill and headlights and nice rims, in that PS it looks like blue chrome.... you do realize a good complete paint job will run you over $2000, right? The $250 cheap macco 'ambassador' paint jobs are the worst and will last only a little while before chipping off since they dont sand off the previous paint.

lemans blue. somebody here actually did that color.

It would look cool in Le Mans Blue, but keep in mind a good oem quality paintjob which also covers the engine bay, doorsills, around the trunk, and what not will run you closer to $4,000. And you definitely want to make sure that all the window trim pieces, bumpers, headlights, tails, grilles, are removed prior to painting. It's pretty labor intensive for a good paintjob. Now, you can prep most of the car yourself and then take it into the bodyshop for paint to save you a good amount of cash. But color changes are big projects no matter what.

I'm liking BMW's Interlagos Blue too, it looks to be a bit darker and with a purple hue as opposed to the true blue Lemans. I'm aware of the costs to get it done, but I'm thinking about just getting the outside painted and not touching under the hood or door jambs, which is why I didn't want to stray too far from the original color. Just getting something different and is not too noticeable when the doors are briefly opened. That way it's easier to go back to the original color if the need ever arises. It's all for fun, I'm planning to stick with the car for a while longer, and maybe it will draw a bit of attention because it's different.

To pull then off nicely you have to go pretty aggressive

LordFappington 07-11-2011 01:11 PM

At least do the jambs...

AcenJay 07-11-2011 01:43 PM

Haha, fine, maybe I'll do the jambs too.

BMW Blue FTW...

Although my favorite color is BMW laguna seca blue!

You can always price out a vinyl wrap, that way you can go back to your oem color later on if you get tired of the new color.
