New guy

Hi everyone. I joined up to look around and learn. I currently drive a 02 WRX with quite a few mods. I am thinking about selling her off soon and I am considering a g35 coupe. So I figured what better way to learn about it than from this forum.

What transmission are you looking at...any issues with your wrx transmission. I heard the 02 year had some issues. Plenty of reading for you and keep in mind the rev-up motors are:

I would only consider the 6mt at this time.

I have not had any issues with my transmission yet (knock on wood) the 02s are in fact known for that glass gearbox. I just had to research what turbos people were using without running into transmission problems.

thanks for the link. I can tell I've got some research to do To be honest I do not know anything about the rev-up motors.

In a nutshell the revup motor is junk and the piston rings are weak. If you buy a manual coupe from 2005-2007 then you better get a factory warranty or infiniti extended warranty. Make sure the owner did oil changes at 3k miles and have full service records. It is very common to burn 1/2-3/4 quart in 1000 miles on a rev-up motor...now do some simple math if an owner waits till 5k to do an oil change .


When you test drive take it take it for a 5 miles trip and really open her up and that step outside and listen to the motor and see if you hear and abnormal noises, ticking, tapping or knocking. Check the oil level before you start and if you can check cylinder #3 and #6 for oil leak in the tubes. JUST GET SOMETHING WITH A WARRANTY .

Keep in mind common issues like compression rod bushings, window motors crapping out, AC/radio unit crapping out, leaking valve covers, fluids like diff, tranny, clutch. Brakes and tires as well can add up very quick with 30k life on them. The car can be very easy/cheap to maintain or extremely expensive and time consuming. Take the time and find an unmolested vehicle to make your life easier. You don't want someone elses headache that turns into a money pit very quick.

Welcome...and interesting...I have been considering going to a 'baru from the G since the move to Co.
