What's up with the trunk switch
 

I've found that when I want to pop the trunk, I have to possess the key and use the trunk button, use the interior button, or push the remote button.

Now most all cars I've owned including the 1st Gen G allowed me to pop the trunk with the button as long as all doors are unlocked.

Am I missing something?

You should be able to pop the trunk with the dashboard switch.
Check to see if it's disabled.
Open the glovebox and look at the top right coren for a little toggle switch.
This will disable the trunk button, for valet reasons.

I'm assuming by first gen, you mean an '05 or '06 with the intelli key. Even the non premium, '05 had the trunk button, and if I'm not mistaken, if the doors were unlocked, you could open the trunk using the button next to the trunk. I don't think that applied on the premium, I always had to have the key on my person to open the trunk on my '05 with intelli key.

I tested this.
If the car is unlocked, I can pop the trunk with the switch near the driver's left knee... without the fob anywhere near the car. :dunno:

It's not the valet switch.

AV, can you pop the trunk with the rear trunk button with no fob?

By 1st gen I mean an '03 VIN 7679, and you could hit the trunk mounted button to pop the trunk anytime all doors were unlocked, same with my pathfinder, QX4, BMW, and various nissan/infiniti loaner cars.

Hope you guys can check your cars for me.

Our 07 trunk release (by your left knee) works w/out the fob. I'd also concur that your valet lockout has been activated.

+1, thats what I was thinking also.

Let me get this straight!

The valet switch being activated will allow me to open the trunk with the remote and inside switch by the drivers knee, of which I can both do. What the heck does it lock out?

Are we saying here the only thing the valet switch locks out is pushing the trunk pop button (at the trunk location) without the key fob being in proximity? Cause this is my only problem.

GSpot,I misunderstood your initial question,and that's why I brought up the valet lockout switch.

I looked at the thread again last night and I see that your only issue is that the fob needs to be with you for the trunk release to work.
That sould NOT be the case.

You need to have the fob to open the trunk from the rear trunk lid button, but if the car is unlocked, you DO NOT need to have the fob with you to use the driver's side trunk release button.
I confirmed this the other night.

I unlocked the car and then put the fob in another part of the house.
Walked to the car, opened the driver's door and hit the button... trunk popped open.

Not sure why your's needs to have the fob present. :dunno:

Can you walk up to the rear/trunk and press the trunk pop button and it open the trunk?

I'm not referring to the interior trunk button.

No, I cannot open the trunk, by using the trunk lid button, without the fob.
Just like the doors, the trunk lid button needs to sense the fob to work.

Your dash release should work though.
Mine does... I think your's should as well.

Yep, that's how mine works :)

just keep your keys with you (thats where they should be anyways), then you can open any part of your car you want ;)
