Question Please help. I'm totally clueless.

Help me! Iam completely clueless,

I have a 2006 G35 Touring Sedan. Low beam went out. I saw that it was the D2S, Autozone sold me the D2S. Long-standing relationship with my mechanic, he said I could bring in bulb as it cost $50 less than what they had in stock. He came out and told me that the D2S did not fit the plug, but the D2R did, he replaced the bulb. $100 labor!!!! D2R is a completely different color and brightness than the other bulb. It even looks like it has a different shape. I know you've answered this question a THOUSAND times, but I need super layman's terms. Please don't be mad at me.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

Clueless

Welcome to G35 Driver forums!

You should be at your mechanic since he obviously installed the wrong bulb! I don't like having to tell you this but you may have to visit your local Stealership and buy the correct bulb from them! Then have your (socalled) mechanic install it for free along with a refund for the cost of the bulb he installed!

Thank you so much, Gary. The dealership quoted the part at $250. FML. Yeah, I am mad at the mechanic. Your help is greatly appreciated. Any idea why the after-market bulb wouldn't fit the plug??

D2R are for regular reflector headlights while D2S are for projectors. They look the same but there is a small notch towards the back that make the bulbs fit differently. There is a third option D2C which has notches to fit both regular reflector headlights and the projector headlights.

The difference between the colors is just a temp difference and which you want in your car is purely preference although I prefer the nice white 4300k because I drive at night a lot. Basically, the lower that number is, the more yellow the light. When you get to the bulbs with a higher temperature, the light will get more blue then purple.

Yeah, AZ actually sold you the wrong part. The D2S is for the coupe projectors, and sedans never came with projectors. Your mechanic installed the wrong temp bulb tho.

So, return the D2S, and and try to work something out with your mechanic for replacing one of your bulbs with the same temp bulb for free (or really cheap) since he was careless enough to make the mistake in the first place.
