He everyone,
My name is John. My wife has been the owner of the 2008 G35x since it had 30k miles on it. (second owner). the ole girl just recently hit 200k, and she still runs amazing. We just ordered her a 2018 Q50 3.0T from the vending machine at Carvana :), so I am taking over the 2008 as she is paid off and still runs fine. I work from home and maybe leave the house once a week if I'm lucky, so she will most likely last me a long time. We have taken the Infinity to the dealer for all required needs since we have had her. for the first time this year we replaced the battery, and she has recently showed signs of slight leakage from the rear diff. other than that and a worn radiator hose and a few belts, this has been the most reliable car we have ever owned, leading to our decision to purchase another one. While she owned the G35, she would not let me put my hands on it very much in the way of mods. the only thing i was able to get away with, was tinting the windows when we settled down in Texas. I have been looking around lately as to what I need to do to replace the seal on the rear diff, and started to see all the mods guys and gals were putting on their rides. last week I gave the ole girl a complete chrome delete / black out. it looks really good with the red and tinted window. I'm pretty excited to look around here and see what all the members have been doing to their rides and maybe pick up a few ideas.

Looks good! What did you use to black out the chrome?

Edit: Nevermind, just read some other threads you posted in. Anyways, welcome!

Diff gasket is SUPER simple, open the fill plug up top, open the drain plug on bottom and drain fluid. Remove the flange of bolts holding it on, use a seal cutter to break the old seal (never use a flat blade screwdriver for this), let it FULLY DRAIN until it doesn't even drop anymore while you scrape off the existing gasket material. Use a shop towel and mop up any remaining oil that might leak out then clean the mating surface thoroughly with brake cleaner to remove all oil from the metal, apply a bead of Permatex Ultra Grey around the gasket surface, bolt the diff cover back on and let it cure for 24 hours. Install lower drain plug, fill diff with gear oil, reinstall top plug, DONE.

Torque specs are in section DLN - Driveline, since you're an X model make sure you are looking at the torque specs for the rear differential, it should be near the end of the document with the complete disassembly directions.

Nice car too, my wife has been throwing some serious hints that she wants another G for her and the HR equipped X sedan is a serious possibility.

Awesome!! thanks for that bit of info. I was under the impression, I would need to pull the whole diff to change it out. that makes life a whole lot easier.

Errr uhhh... actually I'm completely wrong about that, I don't know what I was thinking. Wrong amount of alcohol I guess >.< I completely forgot about the subframe bushing/stud/etc until I was just under mine doing an oil change.

Sorry for the misinformation, you will have to remove the diff because there is a stud at the top that goes through the subframe to prevent it from torquing. Fortunately it's NOT hard to remove, it's quite a few pieces but it does come out easily. Look up "g35 rear diff bushing installation" to see what needs to be done.

ah, its all good man. I was totally going to yank out the whole thing anyway, so I could go ahead and replace the bushings. but hey, I've seen your post in a whole lot of these forums. do you know where to get a front end subframe for the awd model? I jacked the ole girl up today to see what the underbody looked like. it was pretty darn clean except for the exhaust and that subframe up front. I looked up a few aftermarket ones, I found they are mostly made for the rwd only models.

Ok you'll need to do a little more research but I think that same front stay crossmember is Nissan part number 544B2-EG300 and that it was used on ALL of the AWD vehicles from 2006-2013, including the G35, G37, M35, M37, M45, M56, EX35. Basically everything that was the V36 platform that had AWD. You should be able to find one at a good price with that broad of an application, I would definitely call Nissan or Infiniti and verify the intercompatibility though.
