What's the darkest tint you can have in CA?

I want to get the darkest I can legally. All I know it's based in percentage.

Basically you are looking at:
  • Nothing but factory on the front and front-sides
  • You can spray-paint the rear sides and back opaque black if you want.

yea....you pretty much cant do anything up front but rear you can go DARK.

i would say 35% is a "safe" % but you are always at risk of getting busted. it really all depends on the cop. 50% up front is pretty much guaranteed not to get busted, but it isn't really dark. 20% and below will mean you will be rolling your windows down when you see cops.

you roll the dice with any tint on the driver/passenger windows. i have 40% on all five and haven't been ticketed yet.

izmir41500 Aug 20, 2007 01:59 PM

hoping to get away with 35%

Do you, or anyone else have pictures of what 40 percent tint looks like? I will probably go with this.

I want it dark enough where other people will have trouble seeing me. Plus for the sun, since it gets so hot in my area.

1trueG Aug 20, 2007 07:36 PM

Im rollin with 20% all around except the windshield, and havent had any problems...

battlebuddyP Aug 20, 2007 09:01 PM

5% rear and 50% front with the 50 ur pretty safe, unless the cop wants to be a prick, and i know alot of people who go 35% inthe front.

jasoncham2003 Aug 20, 2007 09:32 PM

I have 15% on the back 3 and 50% on the front 2 and with my black/grey interior it looks pretty dark and I could definately get a ticket for the 50%. The color of your interior changes how dark your tint looks. If you have black interior no tint looks tinted. if you have tan interior you can probably get away with alot more.

Here we go again. Yep, we are the pricks because people car's are not equiped as required by the vehicle code. We are the pricks because we point out the obvious. Yes, there is such thing as spirit of the law and letter of the law. But don't be mad at us for getting a ticket when you knowingly and willing modified a vehicle in violation of the vehicle code. Be mad at the ones that write the bills in to law. Heck, i'm in the belief that you should be able to do anything you want to an engine as long as it passes the sniffer test. And I took my chances by dropping a 502 into a 68 Camaro before the new smog laws made it exempt. What next? The whole front plate issue?
