How should i stop the rattling of my carbon fiber trunk when my subs are on?

basically i have a lot of carbon fiber on my car, i also have a stripped trunk (dont ask why cuz it didnt take off that much weight), but i recently put in a 12' sub(contradicting why its stripped), and its bolted in pretty well so it doesnt budge. whenever i play it, whether it be quiet or loud, theres an obnoxious rattling sound of the trunk that can be heard over the bass from outside the vehicle. whenever i put pressure on my hood from the outside the rattling stops because i stopped it... im not quite sure where im going with this but basically i need help thinking of options that can be done. the guy who installed my sub said hes never done work to a car with a carbon fiber trunk so he has no idea how to stop or even soften the rattling. he only name dropped putting in some dyno-mat, but i can only see that muffling the bass rather than the rattling sound. again, its only my hood rattling as the sub doesnt budge. so ya... not quite sure... figured if anyone knew what might help it would be one of you guys/girls...

idk y i put 'subs' in the title. its only one. ha

dyna-mat will work, it deadens the sound waves and makes your trunk not rattle. It actually will make the bass sound better.

dynamat the lining of the trunk lid and slap some dynamat on the back of the license plate. If you really want to kill it dynamat the flooring of the trunk as well...

Tip taken from a friend who used to compete professionally and dynamatted his whole SUV and ran 4x15's in a custom box... could shred a newspaper if held in the window!

...hate to say it but you bought the wrong car if you want it to be light!!! :)

haha wow thats intense and ya but i cldnt b happier i love my g. ill try the dynamat and let u guys know how it goes. thank you

same problem happened to me too so I put on dynamat but it doesnt really help. It makes the sound a little better but trunk still shakes from outside

carsontl 04-01-2011 11:48 PM

bozookah you can try dynamatting all the way up to the seal so that the seal is touching the material, can help dampen

you can try and identify what is causing the rattling and strategically place padding in the form of rubber or dynamat in those areas. the trunk may still vibrate, but if you pad whatever it's rattling against it shouldn't make any noise

im not sure if the trunk would close if i put it in mbtwn the two but its worth a shot

carsontl 04-02-2011 09:01 AM

the trunk will close if you put someone's arm in the way, you just have to try harder.

...don't ask me how i know that

IRideR0me 04-02-2011 08:24 PM

ouch? lol

TeddYang 04-03-2011 01:45 AM

how do you know? please explain!

IRideR0me 04-03-2011 05:31 PM

ok i figured out the problem.. i have a seibon cf trunk.. so if u have this youll no what im talking about. but theres a top piece and bottom with holes on the bottom.. im just gonna put some of that expanding foamy stuff to keep them separated. i guess they were hitting it other

cdubel01 04-04-2011 10:21 AM

i dynamtted my entire trunk and it still rattles some cause of all the bass, but helped out ALOT and keeps the sound in the car. Let us know how the foam does...

carsontl 04-04-2011 10:23 AM

dynamat rocks

cdubel01 04-04-2011 10:26 AM

if ur gonna do it, might as well do the whole trunk....
