Joe's Paint Project!

Hey guys, Here is the thread where I will post the progress of my paint project. So far, I have the paint booth built and materials for the bumper paint gathered.

Here are a couple pictures of the booth:

I am designing the booth to be positive pressure to keep the dust out. Here you can see the effectiveness of this:

Here are my paint selections:

My gun should be here Friday, I will post pics then, as well as the current state of the bumper.

Awesome! Looks great...cant wait for more!

looks like you can almost paint a whole car inside, lots of room... what are you painting exactly ?
wish i had your skills to paint stuff myself, i would have a new paint job every single summer, haha

the plastic covers you chose seem a little thin, might move around a lot... i would have gone with something a little thicker

Very nice, that is a great home booth.

There is a lot of room. I designed the booth to be a two phase booth. Phase one is the bumper only. Second phase will be doing the rest of the car. All I will need to do is pull the end off the booth and extend it about 6 feet.

The plastic itself is 1.5 mils....I didnt see a problem with it moving around or being thin...as long as it seals ok.

you better not be doing much painting in there. Paint over spray will flake off like a mother fvcker from that plastic, fly and stick all over the wet paint.

I thought that may happen a bit. I figured I would wipe the plastic down to help with it.

you could tape big sections of masking paper over plastic.

Seems like you got enough light there and don't need much more.

If it's just one bumper you will be fine, but if you gonna continually use the booth for several items (which seems that you will considering amount of paint you got) all that over spray will dry off and as soon as you turn off a fan or enter or exit the booth, all that will simply flake off the plastic and start flying cuz you got no structure in your walls. So you either need a big a$$ fan that will filter all that out and prevent it from sticking to the plastic, or cover plastic with some absorbing material which will prevent over spray from flaking off.

fantastic setup man, looks good

Interesting, definitely kudos for undertaking such a project.

I'm wondering however if your setup costs (time/money) aren't approaching just going to a nice body shop or actual paint shop and getting it done. I know your material costs are likely lower but the opportunity cost of the time you are spending? I dunno. Unless you plan to do a whole car, seems like a lot of setup for a single piece. Just my .02

Good luck to you Joe, you're a ballsier man than I.
