Pulled the trigger on a red sport

Well, I sold my 2007 G35x, and bought a 2016 Q50 red sport. Took it for a test drive today, and all I can say is WOW. The acceleration is very impressive. Timed it at 4.4 secs 0-60. Quiet interior. Passing ability on the highway blows the G35 away. There is no comparison.

JOKER 07-30-2016 01:15 AM

Why you went with red sport instead of hybrid?

Hybrid is basically the 300hp 3.0l with a 60 hp hybrid motor. I wanted the 400 hp motor. Really, to drive it is unreal. The take off, passing ability, fit and finish is awesome. I loved my G, but the one thing that bugged me about the car is when you go to pass, their way always the computer lag in acceleration, and then the car would just scream. That irritated me to no end. It was fairly quick I guess, but nothing like this car. You punch it, and you better pay attention to where you're going, because you're gonna get there quickly.

JOKER 07-30-2016 02:38 PM

I keep eyeballing the hybrid and red sport, but then there is always boosting my car to 400hp. So i'm not quite decided yet.

ScraggleRock 07-30-2016 03:55 PM

I've never had any problems when passing. Drop it into 4th, rev match, pedel to the floor and gtfo that beeotch. Haha

I do like the sound if 400hp tho. Does the redsport come in a manual?

As far as I know Infiniti does not offer manual in any models, currently. Maybe in a coupe when it comes out.

If you have the 3.0t that is 300hp, you cannot increase the boost to get to 400 hp. They are a little different engines.

If you have the 3.5l or 3.7l, trust me there is no comparison in passing. I had my G, and thought it was quick, and it is sorta, but nowhere near this car.

New cars are supposed to be better so, its not surprising. Plus, as long as Infiniti took to replace the G37 series. The new coupe should fly you to the moon.

Blue Dream 08-10-2016 04:08 AM

OP congrats. I would be really proud of Infiniti for producing a true sports car if the RS had a manual tranny, but damn with the level of creature comforts in a sedan that runs 4.4 0-60 it's hard to complain about anything else. Who would have thought Infiniti would have introduced a stock car that will beat my bone stock 06 GTO, well done!

slimjim2525 08-17-2016 02:20 PM

1500 mile review. Pros: The car is quite quick, steering is ultra lite, quiet interior, no rattles, brakes are very strong, stereo system is excellent, easy to use navigation, it really is a blast to drive especially in sport+ mode. Cons: Had a couple of electrical gremlins that required me to shut the car off then it fixed itself. One time the rear view camera did not come on, and then when I put it in drive the navigation screen was blank. One time the down angle of the rear view mirrors in reverse did not move. The rear window defroster sucks, and don't even want to think how bad it will be in the fall and winter. This may need some work but will see. The ride is stiff, you feel every road imperfection, I believe this is largely due to the absolute crap tires. If you go to tire rack and read the reviews of these tires, there is not a single good review. Why would they put these crap tires on a 55k dollar car?? But overall I love the car. I had my 07 G35 for 9 years and 151k miles, and will for sure keep this equally as long.

Blue Dream 08-29-2016 04:14 AM

To answer the tire question, because in the end it's all about the money. Most "normal" Infiniti buyers won't even notice things we enthusiasts do like sh!t tires. Good news though, you can have fun trashing those then just replace them and get exactly what YOU want lol.

Throwing20s 09-12-2016 11:38 PM

Apparently, the 3.0TT is hitting 375 to wheels on Stillen and Motordyne dynos. That's closer to 425hp+-

The new VR is a beast out of the box. I can only imagine it with AWD. When (and if) the DIS gets tuned perfect, it'll be right up there with top of the line Versions of Germany's best.

And when you paint the chrome grill trim black... Oh la la.

JOKER 09-13-2016 12:28 AM

what tires does it come with?

They want allot of money for the car.

I just spect one out and it came to 61k with all the bells and whistles. Throw another 10k on top and you get a used F-Type R with 550HP.

I don't know if it's worth it for 61k.

Throwing20s 09-13-2016 06:35 AM

You can get the Red Sport in RWD for about 50k

Bump! Nice RS400!
Hope you are still enjoying this sweet ride!
I recently picked up a clean red sport 400, 1 owner lease return. Blk on blk, rwd w/ staggered wheels/tires. Loaded w/ all available options & a 4yr 100kmi b2b ext warr.
Future mods: lower down pipe & cat back exhaust from fast intentions & tune for an easy/reliable 525-550hp (roughly) at the crank. But have to ride out the warranty b4 doing most of those mods.
I kept my blk/tan G35 sedan for 9yrs('04-'13) mods were: Rays 19" whls, z/g springs, coupe midpipe, HKS, full NISMO aero kit-front bumper, side sills, & lower rear valence.
I hope to keep the red sport for 5-7 years or more.
She is a really nice balance b/t luxury and sport and she flat out flies!!

Texan congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad to see one of the OG's take a chance on the RS and love it. Did you get the Direct Active steering and if so how do you like it? I've read that stock for stock your 0-60 and quarter mile times are virtually identical to my Goat but in a 4 door sport luxury vehicle. Enjoy the hell out of your new baby and keep us in the loop about the good/bad of longer term ownership.

cswlightning 03-11-2019 01:42 PM

How's it handle compared to your old G?

Thx Blue Dream, I will/am enjoying it! Yes, it is pretty fast & that sounds right on your GTO!

I do have DAS. I actually like the direct adaptive steering bc of its customization (personal drive mode). I'm still playing around on which settings I prefer but for most people you're bound to find a setting you like. It takes time to get used to bc there is an initial feeling of being disconnected (bc you are disconnected) and you don't feel all the road vibrations in the steering which is mostly good but takes time to get used to.

I will keep you all posted on ownership experience.

So so far the only thing to complain about is the trunk struts need replacing which is a common q50 issue. I won't go through ext war bc I don't want to go to dealer unless absolutely necessary (and I even have 0 deductible). I can get an inexpensive pair of boxi "6802" struts from amazon and change them myself in 10 mins (as long as you do exactly as per instructions on link below)
https://www.infinitiq50.org/forum/di...placement.html
If they fail within 2 yrs then I may try thru ext warr. (But if they use oem strut that will eventually fail).
I could try strongarm which should be better than boxi & oem.

The Dunlop tires are new (bought it that way) and they are ok but I need to source an oem spare tire kit or equivalent so I can run Michelin pilot sports which will improve ride, handling, and nvh. (Once I wear these out). It should also improve the enjoyment from DAS and suspension settings. Btw, with traction control off this RS will light up the rear tires in first and second and allow for some fun oversteer.
It quickly gets you into some alarming MPH readings so much discipline needed
Still learning about all the features. This thing has intelligent cruise, cuts throttle/applies braking to avoid collisions and turns off my brights if it senses another car approaching but I do NOT rely on those systems.
Ttyl

It definitely feels like a bigger/heavier car compared to G35 sedan but in sport + it corners very flat with no body roll and it makes you feel like you're in the footprint and weight class of the G35 sedan.

The ride on sport + is just a bit harsher than G35 set up with rays 19s and z / g coupe springs, but the RS handles better. In sport and standard the ride is much much more compliant and comfortable and handles just as good or better. Can't remember compared to stock 17s and sport suspension but my guess is handles better and is more comfortable than that stock g35 setup.

The other thing is my Q50 has ZERO: squeaks/rattles/vibrations/wind leaks etc which just adds to the whole experience.

Take care
