First in formal, I would like to thank Heri at West Covina Nissan for recommending me to Tustin Infiniti with service advisor Alex. Without Heri's recommendation & Alex's help I would be stuck with my problem.
Problems:
1. 3rd gear & 5th gear grind in a cold start. After researching on this forum, it appears it was an synchro issue. The problem was not being able to duplicate the issue to dealer whenever I want to, it occurs on and off.
2. 3rd & 5th gear is hard to shift into at high speed.
3. Rattling noise coming from underneath of the car near the middle. It goes away when clutch is disengaged. I believe some says it's throw-out bearing issue?
Process:
Heri recommended Alex to me on 5/9 while I made my appointment. I took the car into the dealer on 5/10 morning and described my issue to Alex. He then provided me with a loaner (a dirty one I might add) while leaving the car with them. 5/10 afternoon Alex called me telling me they're replacing my tranny due to internal failure. Picked up my car this morning on 5/11.
Service Done:
Replaced tranny with brand new one. I believe it's 06 tranny (CD009, See attachement). Clutch & flywheel is the same according to Alex.
After thought:
Although, I haven't driven long enough to determine if the synchro/grinding issue is gone. But my first impression with the result is that clutch is lighter (not as stiff), gears are easier to engage into compare to before. Most importantly, the rattling noise (throw-out bearing?) is GONE! My car sounds like a normal new car instead a diesel truck.
Final Conclusion:
This is my first time servicing at Tustin Infiniti. Alex has been a great advisor, very understandable and listen to his customer. The service process was quick with job done in 2 days while Tustin provided me a loaner. Overall experience is great and I think I would not mind taking my car there to service if I was not so far away. In the scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, I give this dealer a 9.
Side Note:
I'm considering filing some kind of claim with Thousand Oaks Infiniti dealer where I purchased my G35 from. When I test drove the car, the sales and I heard the noise but the service manager insisted that it was normal and it may go away after a while, while I did not believe it was. Several times I have called the dealer in regard to the grinding issue but they said they will have to duplicate the issue in order to service. In the end, I felt i was continuously being pushed back for such major issue (internal failure) on transmission while they insisted it was normal. Essentially, I felt they sold me a broken car......
Do you guys recommend me sending a letter to Infiniti Corporate?
See attachment for my work order.
Thank you again Heir & Alex (if he reads this).
