Help me Please! 04' G35 AWD dies while driving.

Hi, I am hoping someone can help diagnose a strange problem. I have a G35 sedan AWD with 132K miles. While I'm driving down the road the car just quits, the engine dies. Before it's about to die, the tachometer shoots down to zero and the following lights go on: VDC, OFF, SLIP, and Service Engine Soon. With my foot on the gas pedal, it feels almost as though the car loses compression or disengages. I pull over, turn the car off, and then crank it on again. It starts really hard and I have to use the gas pedal to get it running again, it kind of sputters, then the engine smooths out. This problem happens intermittently. My mechanic has not been able to duplicate it, suspects it's the timing chain (very expensive), but they don't know for sure. The cam sensors have been replaced. I am hard pressed to spend big bucks for something that may not even be the problem. Can anyone advise me? Many thanks in advance!

Take it to Nissan for a diagnostic rather than wasting money on a mechanic that can't fix it.

Thanks much. I trust my mechanic far more than the dealer at 3x the cost. They did run diagnostics, which indicated cam sensors. Replaced those and reset everything. But it happened again a few days later. I just wanted to get some feedback here to weigh opinions and learn more about the car. Knowledge is power.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
My guess is the mechanic didn't use Nissan/Hitachi sensors. Look up on here the issue with aftermarket sensors and how most G's don't play nice with them. As far as the diagnosis ask your guy if the car popped a P0340 and/or 0345 code/s and if any other codes popped up. If the 0340-0345 codes came up I guarantee the sensors are the issue. Let us now how it goes...

Yup same thing happened to me vdc off slip light with ses popped up. Diagnostic tool showed me P0340 code that's the bank 1 sensor I think? Passenger side. After sautering on a new harness (cause who ever worked on it before broke it smh) installed the new sensor and all was well. Just go to an advance auto or autozone usually let you use them for free.
