Lowering and suspension life

Guys, are the OEM sport shocks strong enough to accommodate an Eibach or H&R drop?

On my old ride with the "sport" suspension, just changing out the springs made the OEM struts/shocks live a short life. I'm wondering if the same could happen to this car.

Thanks.

I have had mine on for about 8 months now. I have about 1" of drop with the 350Z springs. NO ISSUES.

I was dropped 2" on stock sport struts for at least a year without any issues. They were still good when I changed them out.

I have a G35 coupe and I put Eibach Springs on my car. At first everything was ok, but after a 3 - 4 year period my stock struts were completely blown. It made me wish I did coilovers right off the bat.

My car has been dropped on eibach prokit springs for about a month now. The ride seems a little soft to me (much more than stock sport springs). My personal opinion is that the stock sport shocks/struts are not designed to work with the spring rates of the aftermarket springs (eibach/H&R, etc.) If you change the springs you should also change the shocks/struts. I'll be switching to Tokico D-Spec shocks/Struts when they become available for our cars.

Thanks for the responses, guys.

coldcut, that's what i thought would happen. Even if i could get a year or two on the OEM shocks with the Eibach's, that just tells me the OEM's can't handle the aftermarket springs well enough. Do you know when the D-Spec's are coming out?

On a side note, with your Eibach's, how much of a gap do you have on your ride now? I measured mine and it's roughly 1.5" as it is - and i'm on the OEM set-up. (springs/shocks).

if any of you guys are willing to sell your stock sport springs, I'd consider buying them.

also, for the record, I'm patiently waiting on some DSpecs as well.

My sedan has been lowered since 2/07 with no problems on the stock shocks.

Soundmike,

I don't know when the D-Specs will come out for our cars. I'm going to give them a call next week.

I have yet to measure the drop on my car since the springs have been installed. I must say that it looks a lot lower and I'll happy with the drop.

I ran Tokico adjustables on my eclipse with 500lb front and 400lb rear springs (lowered ~1.5) and within a year I had blown both rear shocks. I'm talking the oil was all over the inner fender. Tokico wouldn't warranty them because the car was "raced". I think it had more to do with the crappy roads!

Bottom line, you will reduce the lifespan of a shock/strut if you increase the spring pressure from what it was designed. Next question, if Journey and Sport springs are the same, are the shocks/struts different?
