Disappointed; car's lost power

I dyno'd my car this past Saturday to get a new baseline because I planned on making a couple of changes this week. My previous best numbers were 266/250. Saturday I put down 253/247.

This is on the same dyno, same operator, and almost identical conditions to my last dyno(a little over a year ago). The only change to the car is that I was running a freshly cleaned k&n panel filter this past Saturday, versus a very dirty stillen airbox a year ago. I don't care what kind of intake you have, it's not going to cost/gain you 13hp/3tq.

The only thing I can figure is the fact that my battery died about a month ago, so obviously my ecu was reset when I replaced the battery. I guess my ecu just hasn't adjusted and my tune is out of whack. Unfortunately I was pretty stupid and wasn't paying attention to my a/f's, so I don't know how far off things really are.

I'm going back again this weekend to check a few changes. But the car still won't be tuned(if that is indeed the problem), so I don't expect the numbers to go back to what they were before.

I'll post back here when I have new numbers.

are those numbers with all the mods you have in your sig?

trey's wife Aug 12, 2008 11:48 AM

Yes and no. The first numbers were with a Stillen airbox rather than the stock airbox (as he stated) The second numbers are as listed in the signature and I agree that they are vastly out of wack for some reason or another. :(

time for boost.

Can you pay extra and have the a/f charted also?

It's the intake!

They charted them - he just didn't look at them. LOL I think they charted them at least - unless he just told him NOT to.

I really do think it has something to do with the fact that it went for most of a day without a battery. :(

Maybe he can ask for the a/f data log then. I can't see a dead battery over a month ago affecting things. Maybe if it died the night before or something.

I dont know about UTEC but Osiris needs about 1000-2000 miles to be fully adjusted to its parameters after it is initially tuned or reset. Within the first 500 miles or so it has hard time idling the car after the baterry is disconnected and reconnected again. I am 99% sure it is ur battery. Go back there in a month or so and im sure u will see different results.

Cool. Thanks Klubb for the info. Hopefully he gets his power back.

Well that dyno is going to be gone after this weekend :( The guy sold the building and they are ripping out the dyno and storing it until he finds another building to use. No idea when that will be though.

I was thinking it was the battery thing because I have no idea how long the UTEC can hold it's tune with no power. I figured it either had reset or completely lost the tune it had :(

Oh crap. good point Cheryl. I HOPE that the tune isn't lost or at the very least was saved by the tuner and uploaded again.

Well maybe it is a good reason for me to convince Trey we really do need to go to Dragon*Con this year. :D A visit to Sharif to check on the status of the tune looks in order. LOL

Klubbheads Aug 12, 2008 03:47 PM

i doubt it will be lost.

Skaterbasist Aug 13, 2008 01:18 AM

From what I hear, the UTEC in a few cases has been shown to try to work against the stock ECU. Not sure if this applies to your case though. Perhaps something as small as a intake change threw the tune out of wack? :dunno:

And Trey... the first thing you should ever do is check that AFR (though im sure you already know this) :p

Goodluck. Im sure you will find a way around this issue.

I checked with Sharif, and he said that the utec will not lose its tune, even with complete loss of power and/or removal of the unit from the car. I thought that case unlikely, but wanted to check just to be sure.

And yeah, I should have been paying attention to the a/f's. However, I knew I would be going back a week later. Also, my car was the last car for the day, and we had been out *all* day at another meet, and just wanted to get home.

One cool thing though: there was a guy there named James Henson, who is a local tuner for UpRev. We talked prices, and I'm not sure if I'm going to ditch the utec or not, but he did do some datalogging with Cipher for free. I was more interested in seeing what my timing was doing, coolant temps, cam timing, etc. I *really* wish I had the cash for the Cipher program. Looks like a lot of fun.
