Using bluetooth for audio (2018 thread)
 

So I just got a 2008 G35X and it has the RCA inputs and then right above those it has an old 30-pin connector. I am making this post because I have searched through several pages on here and it seems like a lot of the products people are suggesting are outdated, or the information contradicts what other members are saying (for example, I saw someone suggest buying a 30-pin to lightning adapter for audio but then I saw several posts about the phone not even recognizing that is was plugged in and such).

Anyway, I understand that the easiest way for my to play audio via aux would be using an RCA-3.5mm then 3.5mm-lightning connector (then into my iphone 8 plus).

However, what are the current bluetooth options? Again, everything I am seeing is several years old. I would prefer to play music from my iPhone 8 via bluetooth, that way I can also charge my phone.

Grom audio has solutions. Vline is probably the best. I converted my 07 nav unit to a 2010 nav unit so I have built in BT streaming.

I ran into the same thing you did - many links to accessories that are no longer available or are now mostly outdated.

If you want to stream audio via Bluetooth, which I am doing, I bought this. You only need the "car pack" version though it looks like they've changed their pricing. The car pack doesn't include all of the RCA cables (that you don't need for a car) and had a lower price but that's not the case anymore.... You also need a cigarette lighter power adapter with USB, RCA male to 3.5mm male, and I'd recommend getting a noise isolator. The adapter I linked to doesn't have one (the device itself is tiny, smaller than a USB flash drive) but the "noise" is only noticeable when there's silence but I still added one afterwards.

Note: You can't control your device (in your case, your iPhone 8) through the car in any way. Otherwise, it works great and sounds great.

Your local computer shop will have Bluetooth adapters for under $20. The one I selected has pause / play / vol up / vol down / previous track / next track , and sits in front of the armrest on top of the cup holder flap in the center console.

Here is my power adapter and Bluetooth adapter. BT adapter has an on/off switch to save the battery, and is kept charged with the micro usb cable. Turning the adapter off will cause the ipod to stop playing. Turning it back on will cause the ipod to automatically connect,unless another bluetooth device is available.

Ipod in place, kept charge by USB. Turn the BT adapter on, wait for it to connect (about 3-4 seconds) and push play.

Third cable is to charge my phone, 4th slot gets used to charge the wife's phone or a powerbank.

I'm positive there's no need to turn it on/off. That 5v socket in the console isn't powered when the car is off. My car is sitting outside the window at work and my iPhone isn't connected to the BT adapter I use.

My ipod lives in the car, if I leave the BT connected it will continue to play. If I turn the adapter off the battery doesn't die (meaning I don't have to wait for it to charge the next time I drive) and the ipod stops playing so I can pick up where I left off. If the BT adapter didn't have a battery it wouldn't be an issue. I suppose I could open it up and remove the battery, but I would still have to hit play on the ipod each time.

Ahhh, I see. Didn't realize that yours has an internal battery. I have a Tunai Firefly BT adapter with no battery, so that's the difference. It turns on/off with the car. I also have an iPod Classic but my G35 has the optional built-in iPod connector. What iPod is that, by the way ?

Great pics. Aside from a 7" inch touchscreen, I have almost the exact same setup Broski . I also took out the ipod connector and ran my USB charging cables through the old hole. Right along center console past the shifter , one to the ashtray to power the tablet , and another to the left vent beside the stock screen to charge my phone.

If your car has AUX connections, definitely use those over an FM transmitter. You will hear a difference in sound quality.
