DIY: 6MT shift boot replaced

...well I got really tired of that cheap piece of yinyl they used for the shift boot.
I looks cheap & feels terrible!

So here are the steps to replacing in with a nice leather boot.

We have a local auto upholsterer that does a lot of custom car interiors.
...they were working on a slant nose Pcar when I walked in.
Because of the odd shapped frame the shift boot is not a straight forward cone shape.
They made up the new boot using the old one as a template.
I had them make it an inch taller to make the shape bag out a little more.

Here are the basic steps followed, with notes on the pics.

It was formerly know as the THK, designed by a member here a few years ago.
It's CNC milled out of stainless

Now available through Forged Performance

looks really nice, the boot goes with the car the way it should had been stock, but the knob i think i like the oem better, is the knob heavier than stock? if so any difference in feel?

InTgr8r 02-06-2009 10:55 PM

Yes, heavier & shorter.
I really love the feel of it shifting.

Looks sweet, your stiching matches primo with the seats- gotta get my boot replaced soon....agree, the vinyl doesn't do justice to our 6mt's

Very nice work. Love to rig a boot for my auto, I know someone did a DIY on that too.

Very nice job Ian. I particularly like the stitching....and the shift knob looks pretty familiar.
