DIY: 6MT shift boot replaced
...well I got really tired of that cheap piece of yinyl they used for the shift boot.
I looks cheap & feels terrible! So here are the steps to replacing in with a nice leather boot. We have a local auto upholsterer that does a lot of custom car interiors. ...they were working on a slant nose Pcar when I walked in. Because of the odd shapped frame the shift boot is not a straight forward cone shape. They made up the new boot using the old one as a template. I had them make it an inch taller to make the shape bag out a little more. Here are the basic steps followed, with notes on the pics. http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k7...ds/BOOT-01.jpg http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k7...s/BOOT-01A.jpghttp://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k7...s/BOOT-002.jpg http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k7...s/BOOT-003.jpg http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k7...s/BOOT-004.jpg http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k7...s/BOOT-006.jpg http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k7...s/BOOT-007.jpg http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k7...s/BOOT-008.jpg & all done c/w a new shift knob :D http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k7...s/BOOT-019.jpg |
looks awesome man. great work.
what knob is it? |
It was formerly know as the THK, designed by a member here a few years ago.
It's CNC milled out of stainless Now available through Forged Performance |
looks really nice, the boot goes with the car the way it should had been stock, but the knob i think i like the oem better, is the knob heavier than stock? if so any difference in feel?
|
Yes, heavier & shorter.
I really love the feel of it shifting. |
Looks sweet, your stiching matches primo with the seats- gotta get my boot replaced soon....agree, the vinyl doesn't do justice to our 6mt's
|
Very nice work. Love to rig a boot for my auto, I know someone did a DIY on that too.
