High RPM's on Highway

I have a 2008 G35x with 80,000 miles on it, and lately when I'm on the highway it's revving at about 2000 at 50 mph, 2500 at 60 mph, and 3000 at 75 mph. There is also a whining sound although this could be just in my head due to the sound of the engine revving higher. When the car is at a stop the idle is fine at about 700 RPM's. Any ideas?

While I love the acceleration in our cars, whoever decided on the gear ratios pretty much failed when it came to 5th gear.

Overdrive should've been much lower. Of course they fixed that with the 7AT.
