Where's the hood pin? I want to install a shock sensor.

I was ready to install a shock sensor on my car, but I couldn't locate the hood pin. Does anyone know where it is?

A picture would be helpful :D

What kind of shock sensor? Which hood pin are you referring to?

KPierson Mar 17, 2007 12:06 PM

It is usually on the passengers side, under the hood, near the front on most Nissans. It should be pretty eash to spot, as it is the only thing under the hood that will actually hit the hood when you close it!

I found it easily on my other cars, but I can't find it on this one :(

Aren't there 2 on the 07? I read somewhere that it latches on both sides of the hood to make it more flush with the fenders.

hood pin for shock sensor?

I just get the mercury switches and dont need the hood pin;)

Karman Mar 17, 2007 11:00 PM

There are 2, one on each side. Will take photo tomorrow.

The hood pin is an electronic device that tells the car when the hood is open. Unlike mercury switches they work in all conditions and don't cause problems if you park on an incline. People have wired the output of shock sensors to the hood pin wire to cause the OEM alarm to be triggered by the external device (diode isolated, of course).

However, most people don't actually wire them under the hood, you should be looking for the wire at the BCM. Some people have found that the shock sensors don't last too long if mounted under the hood, and that they don't provide adequate coverage for the car.

Can you tell me what a BCM is? Is it the Battery Condition Monitor Module?

Where it's located?

KPierson Mar 18, 2007 08:55 AM

Body Control module - It is where most of the 'convenience' features are wired and controlled. Door locks, power windows, dome lights, turn signals, etc are controlled by it.

It is found in the drivers kick panel.

You really should invest in a factory service manual if you are looking to wire anything in your car. For $20 it's a big help.

For those who are confused why the OP is trying to find the hood pin/sensor, it is due to the fact that you can then splice into that sensor with a DEI shock sensor. Since your stock alarm does not have a shock sensor, it will trick the alarm into thinking that someone opened the hood. Hence, it will trigger the alarm. This was a write-up long time ago by redwillow.

OP,
Once you find it, please post another write-up for the new 07's. I've been waiting for it because I had installed shock sensor for my previous coupe too.

If it is not evident it may be built in to the latch. I've never looked under the hood of an '07.

I looked again and it's not obvious.

Where can I get the service manual for $20?
