18, 19 or 20's Whats the advantage?
Other than the ability to get a wider tread patch (275) tire on 19 and 20 wheels is there any other tangible advantages ( this does not include cosmetics) ? I am just trying to weigh the pro and cons of 18’s vs. larger sizes (19’s and 20’s).
The only problem I have with the stock sport wheels are the fronts 7.5 just seems to small to get lower profile tire on them (40” and below). I checked a few tire specs on tirerack and I couldn’t find any tires below 245/45/18 that would fit on a 7.5 18” wheel. But I have found a few alternate 18” wheels options that are 8 - 8.5 on ebay and other sources. So from what I have found I can go with 8.5 18 wheel I can go to all the way to a 255/35/18 tire, which there are a good number of tire options in that range. Now of course with 19” or 20” you guys can go all the way to a 275/35 tire which is sweet! But for a daily driver like my G Sport 255/35/18 would seem to be plenty, and looks sweet also. I don’t know if I want to go staggered 18’s or not, that decision also has to be made, then again I am leaning toward non-staggered due to the tire rotation savings. From what I see 90% go with 19's or 20's is that more about style than being functional? Thanks in advance! |
20's are ballin
anything else would be uncivilized :) |

If you are saying there are no "275's" that have the correct "rotations per mile - O.D. size" I don't believe that is true. I did a quick check of the size on google and a Nitto 555 popped up in that size and it should be about the right rotational size. Wheel diameter has nothing to do with how wide you can go, that is determined by the width of the wheel. I think you probably already know that though. Check out 245/45 18 on front and 275/40 18 on back if you want 18's. Other wise you can easily do 19's, 20's or bigger. That is up to your preferrence. I personally like the look of 19's maybe even 20's but the ride will get rougher. If you get snow (and pot holes) and a lot of rain where you live, think about your options for All-Season tires, or a different set of snow tires/wheels. This is all a factors unless you have another car you drive in bad weather. |
I have not noticed a lot of difference performance wise going from stock 18's up to 20's. Handling is much better especially with the Eibach springs. I have no regrets with the bigger rims. I actually think the 20's look more balanced to the car than the 18's.:)

sorry, I feel pretty strongly about this, and it rubs me the wrong way when people with small rims are trying to 'look down' on people with big rims. hey man, if you dont want to look good it's your business I wont give you sh!t, but hate. :11: |

Hmm...so the bigger size rim you have, the more of a man you are. Perhaps we should all get 22's because everyone with 18", 19", and 20" must feel like **ssies. Seems like someone here is trying to compensate for something.

I still beat the same guys with the same cars by the same margins as before. As far as a rougher ride, there is a little more sharp feedback over rumble strips, etc but the Eibachs give the same soft ride as the stock springs on normal roads. With the progressive rate of the Eibachs the car rides very well until pushed in a performance maneuver. The lower center of gravity does improve handling....that is not misleading.

I would love to get a 275 tire on 18, but I can't seem to find any 18 wheels that have a width of 9 which is what is required to fit a 275/40/18 tire. Can anyone refer me to any that you have seen.
Thanks,, Never mind I found some on ebay,, they are 9.5!! wow. I am wrong again I just found some bridgestones 275/40/18 that will fit a 8.5 width wheel..... |

I keep thinking it could be a typo or something, I checked a few tires specs for 275/40/18 and I was only able to find one that would fit 8.5" with 18's.
(Bridgestone Potenza RE050) Is there anything else I am forgetting cause I would love to get these on my G sport stock wheels, 245 in the front 275 in the rear. |
