Lower profile on stock 17's???
 

So I have had my G35x for two weeks. Love the car. I am in Vt so planning to get snows. I was going to put snows on the 17's and get 18's for summer only. Problem is hard to find wheels I like. I really want stock 18's from a coupe. Also I can't run staggered which is a pain in the *** so far.

Anyway, the biggest thing bothering me about current setup is that there is so much tire, not really the wheel size. I am used to 17" in 45 profiles (last two cars were A4, and Subie Legacy). So has anyone gone to a 245-45 17 tire on the stock rims???? Will that even fit? Does it look ok, or does it look really stupid? I am thinking it might look bad on this car since the wheel wells are so big.

Any suggestions? Pics of a car where this was done would be AWESOME!!!

The stock 17" rim is a 7.5" rim. That's pretty narrow for a 245 width tire. You can get it on there, but it's probably not recommended.

IMO, running 245-45-17s would make the wheel well gap look huge (especially in the front), take away some ground clearance, and not really provide any added benefit.

The proper size to install so that your speedometer isn't too far out of reading is 245/50/17. If you go to a 245/45/17 your speedo will read 60 mph when you are actually going 57.6 mph. You can't go lower in sidewall profile on a 17" wheel without throwing off your speedo readings. Realistically you should move up to an 18" wheel to get a slightly lower profile. 225/50/18 or 245/45/18 would work on an 18" wheel.

yeah I guess I should go 18". The added benefit of that is that I can swap my wheels from winter to summer without paying $100 each time and not waiting in line. Just have to deal with the sensors.

I am just having a really hard time finding coupe wheels that aren't staggered!!! Some guy on here had the 18" standard coupe wheels and they look awsome on the sedan. I am sure the dealer wants tons of money for them new..
