Question Xenon light keeps going off

Hi guys, ok I replaced my headlights with the 6000k ones like 2 months back, they've been great, but recently I've one of my lights has been acting up after getting my car back from the work shop (the front bumper was getting painted).

Anyway, recently every now and then my driver's side xenon light seems to go off, whenever I notice it I switch the lights off then back on and it usually switches on again. Now this confuses me because if the light wasn't properly mounted then it shouldn't light up when I switch it off and on again. Could it be down to any other reason? I thought maybe one of the wires was loose but from what I can see everything looks intact, any ideas guy?

no if the fuse was blown the light would be out for good. if it's intermittent then it could be a bad ballast or possibly a bad bulb. start with whatever is cheaper

yeah that's what I thought about the fuse. I think I'll try to see if it's connected properly one last time before ordering another set.

Yeah it sounds like a problem with the ballasts. You can switch them out with the spare ones you have.
Can't direct you to a DIY though, sorry Maz.
What bulbs do you have? Cheap quality bulbs can sometimes cause ballast failure so you might want to get a new set of quality bulbs so you don't have this issue again.

actually the ballasts have simple connections (pin/clip/thingys) and all you have to do if i recall is unscrew the ballast from the bottom of the headlight, disconnect the pin/clip/thingys and then reinstall the new ones/replacments. There is one pin that is inside the headlight that was a pain to get to but the whole operation took under 45 mins. Its not that tough, hard part was just getting the damn headlight out! LOL

Same thing happened to me. The passenger side bulb would turn on and then die out. Most of the time it won't light up again.

I changed the bulbs and all is good!

ah so your problem was the bulb itself and not the ballast

Maz, start with the bulbs first. The ballast shouldn't go bad after that short a period of time.

What brand of bulb did you buy? If it isn't a "name brand" like a Phillips, you probably got a bad bulb. Put back in the oem bulbs and see if the problem goes away.

I got the JDM 6000K Garax D2S HID Bulbs (http://store.ijdmtoy.com/JDM-Garax-D...2s_d2r_d2c.htm)

The weird thing is they've been ok since I've come back from vacation, I'll see if it happens again, if it does then Phillips would be the only route to take.

Yeah those bulbs aren't exactly the best quality bulbs so if it happens again just get a set of Philips Ultinons and you should be ok.
