What's up with TPMS?
 
OK so I am thinking of getting rid of my 08 Type-S TL for a G35. I know they never released the TPMS with direct readout on the screen, even though the early manuals showed it. But the latest manual give no real info ont he TPMS. I know like Toyota you can set the TPMS once you know you have your tires to a set PSI. I don't see anything in the manual on this in the G35. Is the TPMS a fixed PSI or is it somehting that is set to some relative setting based on what you fill your tires too. Since there is no read out I will be filling my tires to 36-38PSI and don;t want to wait until one get to less that 30psi before I know it.

Mine will come on at 27psi.
There is no manual setting of the tpms limits.

Well that kind of sucks. Toyota there is a switch in the glove box you depress in some sequence and it set that as the new threshold then I think 10% drop from there turns on light. Got to hand it to Acura/Honda, love the direct read out so I never have to manually check them.

I have a 2007 Honda with TPMS and its no better than the G. If the tire pressure is low "TPMS" lights up on the instruments panel. It doesn't indicate which tire or how much pressure is in the tire. Same as the G.

If your biggest gripe with any new car is the level of granularity offered by the TPMS, you're doing pretty good.

Yeah I know, funny how picky I'm getting, the Gis a nice car, real close to pulling the trigger. One dealer told me today that G37 sedan will see $1K-$2K price increase over G35.

I was on the Type-S/G fence.

Believe me, there will be no looking back if you dump the TL for the G.
Everything about the G is better.
In some areas, by a little bit. In others, by leaps and bounds.

Yeah I know, the only 2 things that are slowing me down are the G is a little snugger inside, I am 6' 1" and it is comfortable, but snug. And the other is the MPG, I know if you by a sport sedan you shodul not cry about gas, but I want a sporty sedan and one that is somewhat reasonable on feul I don;t think in $4/gal times that is asking too much, I think the thing is there is a group of those that want a VERY SPORTY and intend to push the car. There are thso of us that want a premium car with good ride and handling and will rarely push the car to its limits, and are willing to give some of that up to get something that gets reasonable MPG. That is what attracted me to Acura all along as well, they have decent cars and reasonable MPG. Truth is the G is well better built. The TL coming frm OHIO suffers in build quality even compared to the TSX, let alone the G35.

I rarely push the G to the limits...but when I do I love the way the G performs ..the acceleration is pretty fast..and it will never giveup when you try to push it...On some occasions I drove the others ..but they are never as close as the G..... better handling and over all better (my opinion).. than many....
Btw the TPMS read out was there in the 1st Gen FX and the M... not there in the G but not a deal breaker I would say :

kluken - Why are you ditching your TL-S? Is it just the build quality? Or is it more that you want RWD or some other reasons?

Couple of things I like on the TL better than the G35 - Nav and all other functions such as bluetooth, etc. is never locked out when driving. And, of course, the TL feels roomier inside too.

Other than those 2 things, the G35 has the TL-S beat in every other category.

Because I am bored mostly. I have owned 5 3G TL, and 2 Type-S. I wanted a G in March but coudl not find what I wanted at the time. I love the way my Type-S drives and yes I liek a few things better than G, Naivi not locking out. Also love the 22MPG I around town in the Type-S, but basiclaly I'm bored and tired of Acura sub-par build quality. The Type-S leather is some of the worst leather I have dealt with, loose fit so it is folding all over the place. They have been good repalcing some of it, but if you put the same crappy leather on it it happens again. You get in a G35 and the quality and build quality is obvisous and clearly superior to the TL. I am thinking of waiting until March and seeing what kind of deals they'll have on G37 sedans, but you can;t argue with the discounts this weekend!!

I'm 6ft, and I find the G a little more snug, but more comfortable. I didn't like the seats in the TL and my knee always bumped the center console. If I push the seat back enough to be comfortable in the legs, my arms didn't reach the steering wheel even when out all the way. I find the G more comfortable on long rides.

The TL shines in the MPG dept on the highway... I've seen as high as 36 MPG on the way to work. I've only seen up to 27.7 in my G on that same ride. I don't see much city driving, so the lower numbers don't affect me much. I average about 18-20 in my G. Good thing the TL is better on gas so the driver can catch up to me when I stop for gas. :cool:

Build quality is a major issue for me. We have an 06 MDX in the driveway, which is why they were so eager at Acura to get me into another Acura. Although there have been no "major problems" (knock on wood), the MDX is NOT what I would consider a Premuim Level SUV in quality. Fit and finish downright sucks. I'm also disgusted with their top end Bose Stereo.... crap.
They gave me 7 different TL loaners, including the Type-S.... I got bored with all of them. The Type-S felt like a riced out Accord... eh:icon43:
The TL just didn't get my juices flowing like my G has. To each their own though.:o
