would self tapping screw work, do i need washers or whatever?
i also heard from some people that to drill a hole and use a nut and bolt to hold it on.

Did the lip come with hardware, templates and instructions? I'm not sure why you are asking for details on what types of bolts/screws to use.
The lip should come with some cut out templates. They are pretty detailed and show you where they need to be cut and folded. They are then taped into place on the car and these templates show you where to drill holes, and what size they should be. There are small holes and then larger ones placed beside them (about an inch in diam)
The large holes accept a metal clip that covers the smaller hole beside it. This metal clip accepts the screw that holds the lip into place.
The lip is held in place with both tape and screws. The screws into plastic alone would not hold very well so that's where the metal clips come into play.
Biggest PITA is getting the holes drilled. I lifted the front end up so I could get the drill underneath. Other than that, it was a pretty smooth install. Took me a few hours, taking my time to get it right the first time around.
