Uniden Bearcat BCT-12

I had mentioned this to a couple of you at the Valley Meet that I had this in my last ride. I have yet to install it in my G, but it's going in soon!

Basically, it tracks the communication amplifier used by local police and CHP agencies telling you where the police are BEFORE they use any radar or laser. It also has a weather alert and police/chp scanner abilities. There is thin wire attenna, or you can use the ugly rubber whip.

I have a BCT-10 that I purchased re-mfg straight from Uniden Ebay has them, but they are pricey!!!!

BCT-10 run around $120 from uniden re-mfg, and about 199 on ebay. BCT-12's run around 250+ on ebay.

Use it in conjunction with a Valentine detector for real protection.

Shop around before you purchase. I have used one for 6+ years, up and down the 5fwy between SF and LA. Never had a ticket!

Ted,

So this unit is used in conjuction with a Radar detector? Or it can act as a stand alone unit just for the HWY?

Enlighten me a little more,
~wicked

Re: Uniden Bearcat BCT-12

I have used it with a cheesey radar detector here in LA/OC, as most cops use line of site over radar. However, for long distance, get yourself a Valentine 1 and use it with the BearTracker.

I am looking at getting a Valentine before my next long haul, but the BCT always goes with me!

To answer you directly, it is a stand-alone unit. But does not have any radard or laser detecting abilities...but then again, radars can't detect police amplifiers!

I have the bct-10 i use it ALL the time. Lets just say it has saved me out of enough tickets. How different is the bct10 from the bct12? is there a difference anyways they dont make these anymore. I recomend it to anyone you can find it. But one problem, most police and chp now use digital frequencies. So out scanner doenst pick most of them up

the 10 and 12 are basically the same. i think the 12 is just a little different on its display/sound alerts.

I'm gonna install mine tomorrow.

this unit is a little bigger and has all the functions of the BCT-10 and 12, but includes aircraft and 800 MHz. It can be configured as a basestation or a mobile (with the base removed and hardwired)
