I ordered 19 x 8.5 SSR GT3 wheels & 245/35/19 Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position tires from the Tire Rack. These are listed on their website as a fit. Before they shipped them, someone over there called to let me know I would probably have to *roll the fenders* for clearance! Uh, no thank you...

I stepped down to 18 x 8 SSR GT1 wheels with the same brand/style tires in 225/45/18 YR. They told me I should have no fitment ills with these 18s whatsoever.

My hastily revised order shipped from Shreveport on Friday the 28th via FedEx. I should get them tomorrow or Tuesday.

I can't wait...!

I went with 225/45/18's to maintain the outside diameter of the tire as close to stock as possible. Also, I did not want to have speedometer accuracy problems, not to mention fitment problems with the wheel/tire. These are due in tomorrow...

Is there only benefit to be gained by going from 17 -> 18 inch wheels?
or can you buy new tires (specs?) to fit the stock 17 inch wheels that would improve performance?

Re: Has anybody tried 245's with 18's or 19's yet?

The stock rims are only 7" wide, althought 235/50/17 will fit, they are a little wide for the rim. 225/45/18 will give you an even lower/stronger sidewall and better cornering abilities.

Re: Has anybody tried 245's with 18's or 19's yet?

By going from a 17" wheel to an 18" wheel, you can move to a wider, lower-profile tire that handles better while maintaining a near-stock outside diameter measurement. If you use a lower-profile tire on a 17" rim, the outside diameter decreases.

According to Michelin and Bridgestone, the 235/50/17 tires will work fine on the stock G35 17"x7" rims. They both say the 235/50 size is intended for 6.5"-8.5" rims, and the 7" rims of the G35 will work great. The speedo error of the 235/50's is insignificant also, reading 60.14 mph instead of 60.00 mph with the stock 215/55's. I'm going for 235/50's on the stock 17" rims, picking up over 3/4" of added tire width, using the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires.

Re: Has anybody tried 245's with 18's or 19's yet?

I never said the 235/50/17 wouldn't fit the 7" rims, just that for optimal performance they are a little wide. If you go to tirerack and click on the specs for that size you'll see that the measured rim for 235/50/17 is 7.5". So putting them on 7" rims will not give you the full 3/4" increse in width, nor will the contact patch be as flat as if you had wider rims. Also look at 225/55/17, a little larger in overall dia. but many more choices in that size.

Re: Has anybody tried 245's with 18's or 19's yet??

I believe that even 255's will fit on their, but just the back only..the front can most likely only hold 245s.

This is still an assumption, I was gonna check with america tires later today if it is possible.

Re: Has anybody tried 245's with 18's or 19's yet??

Somehow the shop managed to jam 245's on a 18" X 7.5" wheel. I was tired of waiting for the BT03s to arrive so i went with what was in stock here in order to get the sedan on the track in July. Those T1S Proxes are awesome tires; there have been no traction issues with them at all. I like them better than the SO2s I have on my sports car.

there is a photo in my rides
