For your OEM 19" Ray's owners...

Hey all,

I'm considering the next upgrade for my G and am leaning heavily toward the OEM 19" Ray's wheels. I like the look of them on our coupes (I'm not a huge fan of aftermarket rims). I'm a bit hesitant to buy the 19's because I remember hearing someone mention not to get them ... but I can't recall his reasoning.

So I figured I'd just ask the forum directly:

Would you keep the OEM 18" that come on the '03-'04 coupe or upgrade to the OEM 19" Ray's that come on the '05-'07?

Also, please let me know if you have any issues with your OEM 19" Ray's wheels that would be good to know before pulling the trigger.

Thanks,
B

IMO I would keep the 18" and buy more aftermarket rims. I have the 19" and I just dont like them. THey dont look aggressave and the lip is tiny. But I guess if you powdercoat it it can improve the looks. ALso I see everyone w// the oem 19" so I would like to stand out. But if your only option is to stick with 18" or upgrade to 19" oem's then go w/ the 19", I am sure you can find a good deal on here.

I love the 19 oems' .. they looks good on both coupes and sedans.

I'd recomend them

i love my OEM 19's they are firm and light, and one of the best OEM rims to ever be put on a car. But as always, aftermarket will set a car off instead of blending with the rest...

I'd go with aftermarket rims for the coupe. You'll get a larger lip and more agressive offset. The OEM 19s are perfect for sedans IMO.

Thanks for the input guys.

I really like the look of the 19's. As for them not having much of a lip. Why's that important? And for the offset, I'm not too concerned about that just yet. I would probably put 275s on the back and 245s on the front.

Any other comments about 18 vs. 19? Any performance differences?

The lip on a wheel isn't "important" in terms of performance (at least I don't think so), but larger lips look awesome.

You may want to search around for the proper tire size for an 8.5" rim, some have gone with 275 with no problems, others say its too wide for an 8.5" rim as it exceeds the max suggested size.

i liked how they were much lighter than my current setup. if the stock ones could be widened to say 11" like i have now in the rear then they'd be a

great drag setup with some stickier tires.

without spacers, the oem 19's will be tucked in because of the conversative offsets... personally, i'd suggest saving up some money and going aftermarket. you don't really want to spend money to look like most other stock coupes around. also, 275's in the rear are too wide for the rear. i'm not going to beat the dead horse or start any new arguments on this because there are enough threads on this, but just because it will fit on the wheel does not mean it is recommended.

he doesn't like aftermarket rims. there is no reason not to get the 19 oem's, they are nice forged wheels.

patman530 Mar 3, 2008 05:37 PM

^^ agreed, there is nothing wrong with them... in fact they are some of the nicest OEM wheels i have seen. those were just my thoughts having had the oem 19's myself.

redlude97 Mar 3, 2008 05:39 PM

i would rather roll on the OEM 19's than any cheap set of aftermarket wheels

I totally agree with you, not suggesting at all to get cheap aftermarket rims. OEM 19s are pretty sick for OEM and much cheaper than aftermarkets....great value.

oem 19s + spacers if u are set on getting them. It doesnt look right with the wheels tucked it.
