I'm going from Michelin PS2's to Khumo Ecsta SPT
 

Well, I decided that I don't use the PS2's enough in the way they were designed to be used, so I decided to save my self a few hundred bucks this tire change and go with Khumo's. I'm not an overly agressive driver, but I know know what taking turns at high speeds, spinning my wheels into second gear, taking the onramp curves at high speeds, and spinning my tires from a stop feels like.

In a week, I'll tell you guys how much different it is going from PS2's to Ecsta spt's.

i got the spt's they were awesome at first but after having them for prob 6k miles and 4 canyon runs they are def declining in performance....and they have plenty of tread left....and the road noise has increased a bit....but for the price they are a very good tire

Yah....the thing for me is that I don't do stuff like canyon runs or track the car. If I did I would have stuck with the PS2's, they felt the same since I've had them.

How much of a decline are you talking about? Do you feel unsafe with them?

To me wet panic stopping is more important than any other parameter.

Tire Rack tests tires for NEW 50mph to zero wet. Unfortunately NONE are tested half worn at 8,000 miles much less at 20k.

My experience is that Michelin is the most consistent at half worn and surely near the end of 20k life.

The Koreans/Chinese have learned to TWEEK for brand new performance but they all suffer in longevity and noise especially after 8,000 miles.

Whether 11 feet or 20 feet from 60 mph is important is only a concern after rear ending someone.

I believe they are not in the same category of tires. One is ultra high performance and the other is max performance, so I would hope the Michelin's perform better.

I live in CA...we're pretty dry out here. Wet isn't a huge concern to me. But thanks for the info, I usualy am very careful in the rain when driving and keep my distance even with my current and better performing PS2's. It won't be hard for me to keep a bit more distance.

Its good to see that the dry braking distance is about the same though.

I've been through a couple sets of SPTs on other cars that I've owned and you can't beat them for the price. It's a great tire and I just bought a set a few weeks ago for my TE37s that are coming in.

My first impression so far....they definitely do not look as good as PS2's. The PS2's had a little bit of rubber that bulged out so that it stuck out a bit further than the rim and I liked that. I'll push it a bit tonight and see what its like compared to my PS2's.

Anyone know if you're supposed to wait a certain amount of time after you get new tires mounted to really push it? They put that glue stuff on the tire before the put it on the rim....are you supposed to let that stuff dry?

So these are definitely louder brand new than my PS2's were when they were almost worn out.

On a wide residential street I went up to about 25 mph and started swerving the car left and right. This was probably the biggest difference I felt. These definitely did not have the responsiveness of the PS2's. Its also much easier for me to break traction from a stop and into second. I usually don't drive that way but I did it just to see how it would hold up.

I think I would have stayed with PS2's if I wasn't out of work for 2 months. Hopefully my new job will start very soon.

I prefer not to scrimp on tires where they are such a safety factor. I run PS2s which seem to work well and are top rated.
