Eibach install how to?
 

Hey there,

Does anyone have a link or have instructions on how to install the eibach pro kits on the Sedan. I have installed springs on other cars and each one is some what different. I want to have something to refer to before I start.

Also, For the prokits, is the general recommendation to cut the bump stops in half or leave them alone? I have cut them in the past.

What's a bumpstop? I've done the Eibach spring install TWICE but I don't know what you're talking about. The hardest part of the Eibach install for me was removing the nut on top of the strut assembly.

When you take the spring/strut assembly apart there is a hard rubber type of bushing if you will that fits on the actual shock piston. This prevents the shock from compressing past a certain mark. My my 300zx TT the bumpstop was about 5-6" inches long, and I trimmed it down to about 3" to avoid "riding on bumpstops".

This is common practice when using lowering springs, back when i had my civic, with a 2.5 inch drop, without cutting the bumpstop, the suspension would have rested on the bumpstop had it not been cut.

hope this makes sense.

I have not heard any talks about cutting the bumpstops on this forum which is why I am asking. Perhaps with a mild drop as with the pro-kits, it is not neccessary to cut the bumpstops.

Answer to my own question in case anyone else is wondering. I just called Eibach's tech department and they too confirmed that the G35 does not have " bumpstops". He said 90% of the newer cars don't use bumpstops any longer.

This is cool cause now I bet the install will be relatively easy. I'll post up some pics once i'm done with the install.

I just finished the install. It took me about 4 hours. The front was frustrating when trying to get the spring/shock out but i managed. My compressor was acting up so that did not help any either.

Impressions. Driving normally i could not notice any loss in driving comfort. When driving hard and faster on the freeway i can tell that the car is lowered and on larger bumbs the car does exbit some " bounce" Overall I am impressed with these springs, but ive only driven on them for about 2 miles...

I got a quick question. I am not 100% sure that i put the rear springs in the right way. I put the tightly wound coil part on the bottom and the looser coil portion on the top. The fit was perfect. However the eibach sticker was upside down and I read somewhere that the tightly wound part of the spring normally faces up and not down the way I have it. Just wanted to know how you did it on your car.

My spoiler is coming tomorrow along with my wheels. I will post pics once all is installed.

Oh yes the sedan does have bump stops. Don't touch them, the Eibach's don't drop enough to make cutting them a sensicle thing to do. And given how much I see the suspension's move around on g's with Eibach's I really wouldn't cut them for double sure.

The front bumpstops are built into the upper shock mount/dust sleave. The rear bump stop's are the upper spring seat's.(Rear shock dust shield's, just might have a bump stock built into them as well, haven't looked).

The proper orientation of the rear springs is with the pig tail or the more pointed end to be pointing down or sitting in the lower suspension arm. The flatter end of the spring is the top of the spring.

When I remove my oem sport shocks, I will create a how to for a no fault meathod of removing the upper shock mount nut for the DIY crowd.

Secret is to break the nut loose before unmounting it from the car. :)

I've done the Eibach install about three times and I agree that if you break loose the nut while the strut is still in the car it works well.

Unfortunately, I don't remember whether or not the Eibach logo is upside down--but I'll look when I go out to the car during my lunch break.

Your correct Zimbo, but I'm currently testing the oem sport shocks with oem Z springs. That way I can comment first hand on the combo, as several people have pm'd about such a combo, wanting a 1" drop on linear springs. As soon as I'm satisfied with testing, I'll switch back to the Z shocks.

Well I'm curious about the outcome of your test. I have a set of 2003 Z springs/struts but haven't done anything with them.
