Cheep good alternative to Brembo's?
What is a good cheep alternative to the Brembo's braking system for the sedan? I wouldn't mind just changing the back brakes if the whole sytem cost alot.

Re: Cheep good alternative to Brembo's?
Just a word of advice from someone that has spent alot of time on the track and built a few race cars used on the track-
Brembo's are expensive because they work. Other than motor, the brakes are the most important device on the car. If you go cheap, even if you get a larger diameter disk or new calipers, you may be hindering the stopping ability of the vehicle. Bigger does not always mean better for brakes. Clamping pressure, fade, ABS sensitivity and control are all factors that effect the way brakes stop a car. Things such as "slotted" or "cross drilled" rotors may look cool, but unless you are racing the car, do not do anything other than eat brake pads faster, warp and/or crack (I have had a few crumble after a race) more easily in most cases and will probably increase your stopping distance (Brakes pads, like tires require a little bit of heat before they grip the best, cross drilling and venting rotors dissipate heat better) over the stock brake combination. Through all of this, keep in mind you own one of 2 vehicles made for North America under 40K that is capable of stop from 60-0 in under 120 feet in stock form (the other is a Mustang Cobra SVT coupe). Then ask yourself do I really need them. Another small tidbit of info- tires can make just as big a difference as upgrading your brakes. 2003.5 G35 Sedan, Caribbean Blue, Sport 1994 MustangGT w/ 347 Street Fighter 382.4HP & 411.2 lb/ft |

Re: Cheep good alternative to Brembo's?
do ya really need em? do ya really wanna put anything cheap on such a beautiful car? I've seen civics owners that have simply painted their calipers... whatever u do... i would advise you to preserve the sexy of the car.

Re: Cheep good alternative to Brembo's?
Yup. Can't remember which magazine it was, but they did a sport sedan comparison, and said the G35 wasn't in BMW territory regarding brakes, it was in Porsche/Ferrari territory.

Re: Cheep good alternative to Brembo's?
Since noone has given you any names of other companies for brakes. You could call StopTech, Baer, Stillen...BUT.......
You need to ask yourself what type of driving you are doing? Are you really driving beyond the brakes ability to stop you/slow you down? If so....an upgrade is in order but if it is just the look you want, get some caliper paint and spend a weekend-pick a good color and clean the caliper and tape off the things you don't want paint on. It will get on other stuff:P But you may just want a change, like the slotted rotors from Stillen. They ain't cheap but at 15K you will have to dump the stock rotors so why not wait until then. Slotted rotors will out last cross drilled 5 to1. The only benifit from drilled or slotted rotors is that the gases generated have a place to go. If you don't generate the heat(repeated hard stops or ride the brakes) in the rotor/brake pad that causes the pad to float on those gases you won't see an improvement. On the bad side, performance might go down due to losing some surface area on the rotor. I will be switching slotted when the time is right;) 03.5 Sedan/B. Re: Cheep good alternative to Brembo's?
I think u forgot another car. The SVT Focus that car is also using the same Brembos that are on the Cobra. I am just looking for better brakes for safety reason. My car is the G35 sedan so the braken level on that car wont be near what it is on a Porsche unless I get Brembos.,

Re: Cheep good alternative to Brembo's?
If you're concerned about safety, then leave your brakes alone. These sedans stop on a dime as it is. You can already make the guy behind you hit you if he's not paying attention.

Re: Cheep good alternative to Brembo's?
BMW owners have complained for years about that issue. Whats even better is that the sedan stops better then the 3 series.

Re: Cheep good alternative to Brembo's?
Several mags have the sedan braking 60-0 in 112 feet! If that isn't supercar territory, I don't know what is.
Unless you are worried about fade from track use, other than the Cool Factor and bragging rights, there isn't great reason to upgrade the brakes. Of course, if you use the sorst test results and can rationalize, you can use the data to support the $$$ to your significant other! But HONEY, we need these brakes! What price can we put on the safety of our children! GG https://g35driver.com/rides/spec/pix...1045505413.jpg |

Re: Cheep good alternative to Brembo's?
So any one know the stoping distance of the sedan? I am assuming that 112 is the distance for the 6spd coupe?

Re: Cheep good alternative to Brembo's?
I've seen the sedan rated from 111 to 118ft 60-0.

Re: Cheep good alternative to Brembo's?
Most of the early tests done on the sedan gave it about 112 to 120 feet. In the famous MotorTrend Comparo, 110 feet! Not bad for a non-brembo'd car, eh!

Re: Cheep good alternative to Brembo's?
All good numbers, considering a BMW 330i stops in 124.
