275's on 10.5's?

hey im gettin some volk gtc's in 19 10.5s in the rear. i was looking to run 275 on them. i know it will be stretching the tire, but i was wonderin how bad that would be for the tire. i know it will wear faster, but by how much. are there any advantages to this? the tires i want to use are toyo proxies t1-s, and the biggest size toyo makes is 275. i would prefer not to use nitto. any input would be great.

Daniel,
Check out the following page from Toyo's website. (Sorry in advance, you have to cut & paste this address).

http://www.toyo.com/tires/index_frame.html

I assume you'll be running 275/30 or 275/35 on the 19's. In either case you'll be within Toyo's rim width range.

Re: 275's on 10.5's?

I got 275/35's on my 10.5 rears (Racing Harts) and am having no major problems.

My main issue now is understeer which is made even worse due to my rear offsets which widen my rear track even further. I had to dial out the understeer with a stiff rear sway (using adjustable Hotchkis bars)... with a soft setting up front.

I'm still not 100% happy with the car's balance, it's totally fine for the street but I've decided to get dedicated ultralight track wheels (18's or even 17's) for autocross and track events, where I find too much understeer to be a real detriment to lap times.

I agree that the 275's are leaning towards the slightly stretched side of perfect, but I had a hard time finding 285's in the type of tire I wanted.

I am going to post pics soon on a separate thread. Let me know what you think!

I had the same dilemma. While 275's are within the tolerance range of a 10.5, it's not the optimum size.

I couldn't find a tire in the 285-295 range that I liked either. They were limited to a couple of continentals and pirelli's that didn't receive very good reviews from the tire-rack surveys.

Hopefully my set will last until they do decide to make a 285-295 in a goodyear or michelin. I'd love to put some PS2's on.
