G35X rims
I was told that i can not have staggered (2 inch lip in front and 3 inch lip in back) because the awd will not work. i would love to put staggered rims on but is it really true that you cant? and will 19" with 8.5 fit ok?

Staggered will work with AWD as long as the overall tire diameter, front to back, is matched.
Basically if the rear tires are larger diameter than the front, then they will rotate at a different rate and screw up the AWD. Tire width should not matter if the diameters are matched. Pay special attention to the size of the rubber you mount to your wheels. There are tons of tire calculators on the Internet to help you figure out the proper rubber size to mount on varying width wheels. I would try to get the variation under 1%, preferably under 0.5%. Man I guess I am lucky I am running 19x9 and 19x10, i even ran 19x9.5 and 19x10.5 nothing wrong. Like semi said as long they are running the same diameter it will be good. Also if you did a search you would have found this out.

You can run a real stagger or a simulated stagger. Real stagger would be what Lumpia is doing, i.e. 19x9 and 19x10 wheels. A simulated stagger would be running identical wheels with different sized tires that have the same diameter. Turtle* is running Z Sport wheels (18x8.5) and has 235/45-18 in the front with 265/40-18 in the back, both with a stock 26.3" diameter. CORRECTION: His wheels are 18x8F and 18x18.5R. I was considering running 225/45-18F and 255/40-18R (both 26.0"D) on my Coupe 18's (18x8 F&R).
And yes, those 19x8.5's will fit just fine. Here are some staggered 19 tire options that will have similar diameters: 225/40-19 F - 255/35-19 R (about 1% smaller than stock) 225/45-19 F - 255/40-19 R (about 2.5% larger than stock) 235/40-19 F - 265/35-19 R (close to stock size) 245/40-19 F - 275/35-19 R (about 1-1.5% larger than stock, and common around here on the Coupe 19's) One of the biggest restrictions for certain pairs is tire selection, so take that into consideration when choosing your setup. TurTLe*'s got a great size combination, but tire selection in 235/45-18 is very poor. |
^True that, for summer tires only continentals and some other brand are available. There not bad tires though.

yes i WAS running stagg rims too. 8fronts and 8.5 rears. 235f and 265 r's i loved the feel just couldn't afford the rubber. i'm going to go back to the boring square setup. 8.5 all around with 245/45 this summer.
I'll be looking to go 20's stag something like lumpia's old setup. in most cases work with what you see on sale and etc. only reason why i went 235 and 265 was because i bought the rims with 265 on them. so i swapped fronts tires and ran it for one summer. It was fun having tires wider then most SUV's  |
Oops, sorry about that TurTLe*, didn't mean to misrepresent you. My basic premises are still true however.

OP, one other thing to consider is that you won't be able to rotate a staggered setup front to back. |

loved it but price of PS2 265/40/18 are too much for me... |
so just to fully understand i can put 18" rims all the way around and have 18x8 in the front and 18x9 in the back they all just HAVE to be 18"( for instance i can not run 18" in front and 19" in the rear?)

I don't know of anyone here running different diameter wheels, but many people run different width wheels. |

Not quite. You can run a 16" in the front and a 20" in the rear if you want to. It will look silly, but you can do it. What you need is for the outside diameters of each set of tires to be the same. A 215/55-17 is the same diameter as a 265/30-20 (26.3"), so they'd work. Wheel dimensions don't really matter as long as the tires are the same diameter.

I dont understand what your saying about the same tire diameter.

Lol Not that hard of a concept to grasp.
IGNORE rim sizes and width complete...just focus on the big black rubber things on your car. Measure from the part that touches the road top to bottom...that needs to be the same front and rear. Basically, when the front wheel turns 1 time, the rear wheel also needs to turn 1 time exactly the same as the front. Width does not matter |
i have an 07 g35x sedan and my buddy is sellin his momos from his GS350. can someone help me figure out if it will fit
5 x 114.3 F 20" x 8.5" +40 offset 245/35/20 R 20" x 10" +40 offset 285/30/20 in reading the replies most of u say don't worry about the rim size as long as the diameter/height of the wheel and tire is the same. where can i find if 245/35/20 is the same height as 285/30/20? and stagger wheels, even 20" wheels will work???? thanks in advance |
