Z springs and stock shocks?
 

2004 G35 sedan 6mt, would it be okay to use the stock shocks w/ the Z springs? the stock 17s are on the car now, but it may get coupe 18s soon. thanks!

Stock sedan sport shocks or non-sport shocks? I think it would be fine with the sport shocks since they are valved tighter and the stock sedan sport springs have the same spring rate as the Z springs. You will lose some suspension travel since the Z springs are shorter than the sedan sport springs. Now the Z springs on a non-sport sedan shocks might not be such a good idea since I believe the shocks are underdampned and will not be able to control the stiffer Z springs as well.

Im not sure about this, but my understanding was that the 6mt sedans come w/ the 17" "sport" rims and sportier suspension, i hope its true =P thanks tho, just springs might be the way to go

Yes the 6mt sedan automatically comes with the sport suspension.

I ran a test (after several people pm'd me on the subject) where I pulled my 350Z suspension off and installed the oem sport shocks with the oem 350Z springs. The ride quality was like the oem sport suspension, but it had a nasty spooky handling quirk. If you carried any kind of cornering load the rear end felt very VERY unsure and totally unsafe. I quickly tried something else(see below). I do NOT recommend the combo.

I did do another experiment however. I pulled off the oem rear Z springs and installed the oem rear sedan sport springs. Now, of course the sedan springs are taller, what about that? No problem, the rear upper spring seats on these cars is a 1" tall mass of soft rubber (just like the rubber in your tires). I took a spare pair of these rear upper spring seats and I sliced them down from 1" thick to 1/4". I then paired the cut down spring seats with the oem rear sedan springs, results,....handling quirk gone. Front drop 1" rear 3/4".
