You know what you're talking about? Help with rear 19 tire decision
I have a set of good Hankook Ventus v12 Evo tires on my front 19 OEM Rays, 225/40/19.
I need new rears. I want to stay with Hankook V12s, and after looking over the entire "Official OEM 19s Tire Sizes" thread, I couldn't figure out exactly what to get. :dunno: Info: I def. do spirited driving I plan on getting 20/25 mm spacers in a few weeks, and would like to stay away from the added cost of rolling my fenders. I'm riding stock height (might plan on going with the least drop possible in a few months, maybe S-techs) What Hankook tires sizes should I go with? 255/40/19? 255/35/19? I'd like to increase width to get a better grip. More than 255?? Of what I understood more is not recommended. Thanks  |
I just recently went to 255/40/19 and I really like the looks as well as the fact that it gives more grip. I run 25mm spacers all around and I was rubbing with those when dropped on z h-techs. But then again getting your two rear fenders rolled won't cost you more than $100 so I wouldn't say it is a big added cost.... plus if you ever decide to go with coils you already have them rolled!

Thanks  I just put a set of V12 Evo's (255/40 - 19 on my Rays a couple of days ago. I wish I would have gone wider - maybe 275/35. I'm still upgrading (about another $3-4K to go in a couple of weeks) and they seem narrow. By the way, the 255's don't buldge at all over the rims. I HATE that look. But, that's me. And I'm on stock suspension. |
255/40 is perfect on an 8.5 wheel. If the V12 had a stiffer sidewall then 275/35 might work, otherwise I think it will give you too much sidewall flex.

If I wanted to go with diff. tires, I would consider trying to go with meaty tires like that... It would give an awesome extra grip for those interstate entries :driving: |
