Brine's Effect on Wheels

Something tells me its not good but...

What is the effect of the winter brine/salt on wheels in general? They have to be somewhat ok for a time but eventually that stuff would start to hurt the coat and finish right?

Same as the paint on a car?

Just looking for some general info and tips to keep problems from occuring other than to put on winter wheels/tires. We get snow/ice here like twice a year so not much point to have a second set of wheels for that time.

Not good for either.. It can do damage to your wheels.. pit them and maybe stain.. Run your car through a touchless carwash and get it off.. Id do it once a week depending how much u drive your car..

Daily :icon43:

It hasnt had it since they were put on about a week and a half ago. I just went out and got the salt deposits that were in the wheel wells off (colder than a well diggers azz outside!). Most of it was in the front prob b/c of turns and such I guess.

Will get it cleaned, washed tomorrow. Dude comes by the office as a mobile service and does work on the big bosses cars (porches, bmws, mercs, etc) and they're happy with his work. Some brine/salt is still out on the roads but nothing fresh is being put down for now at least.

I figured it was bad but didn't know if it was bad enough I should look quickly into putting the 18" pizza's back on.

Yeah I put the stock 18's on in winter.. Don't drive my car much at all in winter but I try and run it through the touchless once every couple weeks.. I like to get the salt off underneath and suspension parts..

Good call. Though in Jersey you get more than we do here in the south. I'm replaceing suspension with coils/camber kit as soon as I have the full funds to do it so maybe I'll wait until March to put them on. Make sure while I'm there I get everything nicely cleaned.
