Any pic's of sedans with 245/40/18 out there?
I'm ready to buy some 18" wheels and I'm thinking of going with 245/40/18 tires all around for my 2003 sedan(desert platinum). I saw a few pics here of sedans with 245/45/18 which I know are taller than stock. I'm not sure if the 245/40/18 tires would look to small overall. The lower profile is nice, but the overall tire size comared to the 245/45/18 on a sedan I thought my look too small in the wheel well. If anyone could post pics of their 245/40/18 I would sure appreciate it. I've been looking everywhere to see them. Plus I love looking at all the wheel/tire combos that people have out there.

When I had to decide on tires, I wanted to avoid going taller then oem at all costs. While 245/40-18 is shorter then oem, IMO it's a better choice then going taller then oem.
Here are a couple of pics of my car on 245/40-18's. None of the pics have my current setup with 255's in the rear (though I doubt you could see a differance) My car is lowered 1" on oem 350Z shocks/springs http://pics.montypics.com/Gcoupe35/2..._R2_063_30.jpg http://pics.montypics.com/Gcoupe35/2...9285_R1_8A.jpg Here's a closeup of a front wheel/tire http://pics.montypics.com/Gcoupe35/2...R1_044_20A.jpg |

Do you notice a big difference in ride quality with a 40 series over a 45 series? I am making this very decision right now and am leaning toward 245/40-18 over 245/45-18 to keep lower profile and smaller than stock. Am I going to get beat up riding on 40 series? Thanks...do you like the Kumho Ecstas?

I'd be willing to bet a 24 of your favorite beverage that you wouldn't notice the difference. :D |

I was looking at the same setup & I didn't think Kumho MX came in 255  Correct the MX's aren't avaliable in 255/40-18. I went with Goodyear GSD-3's. Which I will not repeat, when the front MX's wear out pretty soon I will get either KD's (not KDW's) or Pilot PS2's. I ventured away from the MX's because of poor grip in my mild California winters. I know high performance rubber tends to not do so well in the cold, but I felt compeled to seek something better. The GSD-3's are a lot better in the cold, but ironically in hot weather they screech too much when I'm hot foot'n it, I don't need that kind of attention. |

The MX's are a fantastic ultra high performance tire value. However, even in mildly cold weather, I've felt the performance drop off due to the cold was too much. When it wasn't cold out they can stick pretty darn good. They are on the noisy side, IMO. |
Do you have 245/45-18 Kumhos on your car? Your signature says 245/49-18? Do you have any pics of the wheels and tires mounted on your sedan? I'd like to compare it to the 245/40-18 pics above. Thanks

Hey I really appreciate it. Those pics are really helpful. The closeup really helps answers my questions. The drop that you have is about what I'm looking to do also. Your wheels are also very similar in style to what I've been looking at. Very cool. Our you still running those 245/40/18? I didn't now if that was a typo in your present setup . Thanks again. Anyone else have any pics I would still love to see them. |
Here's my sedan on 245/40/19's. A little bigger wheel, but it may be helpful. The ride with the 40 series tire is a lot smoother then I expected.
Go here, I'm post #49... https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...t=18397&page=2 |
Thanks for the pics..helped me get the wheel well thing straight in my mind. The only thing I was concerned about with the 245/45-18 (exact size as your 245/40-19s) was that they are slightly larger (1.5%) than stock and I would notice the difference in acceleration, etc. What has been your experience? I run 225/50-17 on my stock rims for winter driving and the car "feels" faster on smaller than stock diameter tires. Thanks..
