Anyone here use 225/55/17's

These are only 1.6% off the original speedo but allow the use of bridgestone potenza s-03's which I like

Anyone?, How about 225/50/17's? (Nitto 450's)

235/50/17's would be just about perfect if they're available. Otherwise the difference in the 225's isn't worth worrrying about.

235/50/17's are available, however the only decent tire out there is the Pilot Sport A/S, there are no good summer tires out there

I saw one G sedan with 225/55-17s. Pilot Sport A/Ss I think, so I'm not sure why he went with those instead of the 235/50-17s. Should be fine though and within acceptable limits.

The stock GS-D's I was running stuck really good. But I'd take S-03's over the GS-D's any day, even if they were the same width. Going a smidge wider would be even better.

I do not support putting 235's on only 7" rims and neither do most of the tire makers. And running tires like that on a narrow rims does compromise performance, their's a reason for needing 8" vs 7".

On rim widths, you have to check the specs for a given tire at a given size. For instance, the Pilot Sport A/S at 235/50R17 recommends a 7.5" rim, but will fit comfortable on anything from 6.5" to 8.5". In this case, 7" isn't even the minimum recommended, so I'd say it's just fine.

thanks y'all

BTW, I ran 235/50's on my 17x7 Altima stock rims for 22,000 miles but again 205.00/tire would kill me after a while. the S-03's are only 165.00 each or so. I really was looking for anyone who ran the 225/55's. BTW you can get Nitto 450's in 225/50 configuration (albeit V-Rated) for 110.00 each.

just some FYI for y'all

225/55R17 and 225/50R17 are both close enough to stock to be okay. Your speedometer will be off by 1mph at 60. (You'll actually be going 61 with 55's, or 59 with 50's.)

I suppose a person who's really concerned with the odometer could alternate between the two.

3point:

Why not try the Falken Ziex ZE-512, a V rated A/S performance tire? They were the one's I was going to try prior to going to the Pilots. Great feedback from those that have tried previous Falkens, and the Ziex is supposed to be better. Great prices on them too. Previous thread:
