Will 17's fit on the G35C ?
Will 17's fit on the G35C and clear the Brembo calipers?
Because I want 17's and I'm into speed and more torque! |
Re: Will 17's fit on the G35C ?
Forgot to mention its a G35 Coupe 6MT.
Auto's dont come with the Brembo's too so... LOL |
Re: Will 17's fit on the G35C ?
I don't understand why you would want 17's. Please explain.

Re: Will 17's fit on the G35C ?
The smaller the rim, the less resistance to spin. The faster it revolves!!! So when you have a smaller rim on any car you get more HP and Torque to the wheel!!!
For Example: say you got a Acura Integra typeR. 15' rims vs Aftermarket 17'. Takes more effort for the crank and flywheel to roll a 17' cause its heavier and bigger, thus loosing HP and TQ to the wheel. Its all about WHP, the G35 has 280 Crank HP, decreasing this from the stock 18' to 17' will give a boost of "i dont know of much hp." I need to dynojet it w/ 18' and 17's. But I first need to know if the brembo's calipers would clear the 17's so there is no rubbing!!!! I'm not intrested in buying a set of 17's that wont fit!!! LOL |
Re: Will 17's fit on the G35C ?
Spyder500, I understand your theory of more H/P and TQ - in effect you change the rear gear to a lower ratio for better acceleration but you're forgetting one thing: Your VDC and ABS are computer controlled and unless your replacement wheel/tire combination is the same or very close in diameter, they will will not function properly. The idea was good but don't create a dangerous situation for yourself. I think you'll find also that Infiniti will void your warranty with such a settup.
Hope this helps........Later Gsedanman-Garnet Fire Sedan ('till Jan) |
Re: Will 17's fit on the G35C ?
I don't think Infiniti can void your warranty for placing 17" wheels on your car when Infiniti ships the car with 17" wheels from the factory for all cars but those with the sports package. (G35c's anyway).
He is correct that it takes less torque to turn the smaller wheel meaning that the engine's power can be converted to acceleration more quickly (assuming grip of course). I don't think the VDC will interfere unless you start getting wheel slip and since most G35c's come with 17's I don't think you will. What will the HP/torque differences be? Small, but as was said you need a dyno to see. The other advantage that no one has mentioned yet is unsprung weight. Typically smaller wheel/tire combinations are lighter than larger ones meaning less unsprung weight meaning better handling. 17" wheels will also have more tread on the tires to achieve the same rolling circumference thus a smoother ride than 18"s. I've driven the coupe with both 17 and 18" wheels and I can tell the difference in ride quality, particularly in the back seat. Although I like the look of the 18" wheels, we chose to not go with the sport package because of the ride quality differences. I do like the look of the titanium dash though in a graphite interior... hmmm wonder if the plastic can be changed? :) As I said in the other thread, I think you can fit the 17"s and still clear the Brembos, but maybe your dealer will let you test this out. |
Re: Will 17's fit on the G35C ?
hehe I dont like that metal dash, It looks better to me in the plastic. less flashy ;)
I'd be getting me G35C in DG in black leather. doesnt look to pretty to me. and yes I as going for the hp/tq increase as well as the lighter car. Save atleast what 50 lbs from 17 to 18's rims Although the 18's are forged rims; being the strongest, lightest, and best made quality when they are forged. But I still prefer 17's. And to that other guy who was saying that if I change to a lower size. It should never void warranty. Changing to 20' is a way different size and offset, you saying the ppl who put them 20's void'd their warranty. I think not. No dealership can void your warranty for changing the wheels man. Come on now. |
Re: Will 17's fit on the G35C ?
No they won't void your warranty.
But, the amount of power increase you will see from 17 to 18 is so so minimal. Plus, you also might be decreasing your grip, causing less acceleration at take off. The car you are talking about, the Type R my roomate has. Stock 15 inchers (with very soft rubber). His 17 inch wheels (he put them on when he got a supercharger), were actually only 1.8 lbs heavier per wheel than the stock (of course, they do make lighter wheels than the stock, but not that much <2 lbs). You will not be saving 50lbs by taking those off. You will be saving maybe 10 or 15lbs. I think the looks alone warrant their keeping. Not to mention they are some of the nicest stock wheels I have seen. Andrew 2003 coupe 6MT blue premium aero (on order) |
Re: Will 17's fit on the G35C ?
dont forget, its just not the weight of the rim!!!
its also the weight of the extra rubber thats totaled up which will make it lighter. usually regular 17' rims are like 30-40lbs w/out tire. each stock's 15's are 35-45lbs w/ tires. each it add's up to 50 less lbs. it's pretty minimal but, its a eaiser solution to get HP/TQ since Nismo and Stillen parts aren't going to be out for awhile. Cause that 50 extra lb's off the car will give you a increased edge vs the 350Z. 13.9 1/4 mile Z (3,225 lbs Track Model) 14.2 1/4 mile G35C (3336 Base Model Coupe) In Drag times - .3 is a whole lot faster its roughly for every 12lbs less its .005 faster. =) upgrade the intake when parts come out then, it will be hanging with the Z Track Model at the Strip or Road Course. You can then brag to the Z owner that they aren't much faster since you own a G35C w/ leather, 17's brembo's, and a a 2+2 seater. You would have made him wish he bought the G35C instead of his 2 seater Z =) |
Re: Will 17's fit on the G35C ?
I forgot about the tires, it's true you will see a loss in weight there. Now I see what you want. Good Luck!
