What is this? HELP!

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

This piece is making a soft clicking noise when the car is running? I'm pretty sure that's bad news since my car is over heating.

Also this pipe seems to be blowing air, its loud enugh to be hearing it, could that mean that the air is not passing through or something?

Thanks for any help.

First piece is timing cover I believe.

Check for holes in the hose pictured, it sort of looks like it's torn on the left side of the picture (bottom of hose near nipple...haha nipple).

I'm new to VQ's so I can't really help, wait for someone else. Good luck.

Yes, first piece is the cam shaft cover. It's part of the VVT (variable valve timing) I don't think the ticking is a problem unless your oil pressure is way low. The other is a test port for measuing manifold vacuum. It should not be "blowing", is should be sucking at idle.

Over heating could also be caused by an oil issue. Have you checked your oil? Some of the DE's had an oil consumption issue but it will not be covered under warranty. I have had two friends with the issue so far.

For the clicking sound it could be the valves which is normal but you should hear that from both sides of the engine. I am assuming you are not since you only pointed out one side which means there could be something wrong with the cam sprocket.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM FEW DAYS AGO DO NOT IGNORE IT !

I was being a smart *** and was like yeah whatever ill get it checked out tomorrow its been making the noise anyways for a week. I checked the oil it was perfect but what i didint realise was it was burning oil.

As i was driving the engine blew, that soft clicking noise got louder and louder and as i was driving it just went.

I feel like an idiot for not getting it checked out sooner.

Do not ignore it!

Sorry its a 2003 G35 COUPE AT.

I know nothing about oil being bad, but... THe oil was wayyyyy up on the stick and it was kinda milky.. also it was dripping off the stick. It is kinda rough at idle, the car shakes a alot more.

When I first start the engine.... I do smell something that could be burning oil..

I would change it and keep an eye on it. If the oil is milky it either means there is way too much and it is foaming up or water has gotten in it either way it is bad. The clicking may be caused by this because if it is foaming everything is not getting oiled properly.

It did stop using the car. the oil isnt dark, its still slightly olive green like its supposed to be... It just drips off the stick. I'm not sure about the last oil change.. I just got the car 2 months ago.

I'm by no means an expert but milky oil and the fact that it is much higher on the dipstick commonly means blown headgasket. Check to see if your coolant level is low. It is a serious issue if this is the case.

Were you redlining the car in 'manual' mode? G35's aren't redline friendly.

Milky oil and oil levels pass the 'high mark' isn't a good sign.

A blown head gasket is probably it. Sorry to hear that. But you might need a new engine.

Sounds like Karma from you stuntin' around in the parking lot.

Yup the car is low on coolant, it will get empty whenever it overheats, but I dont see any leaking under the car

Could I just replace the head gasket?

Not sure, you have coolant all over the motor, block, cylinders. etc etc.. May need to replace the head or get it rebuilt. Best to have a mechanic look at it.

Even if it's just the gasket, it's going to cost you.
