Different in G35 engine sedan vs coupe

Hi all,

New to this forum, and I am looking for some info, anyone has it and can share it that would be great.

I have a 2003 G35 Coupe (RWD), engine is blown, I am trying to source a used one, but every time I call a junkyard, they as if it is a coupe or Sedan and they keep telling me the engine is different on the coupe than the sedan.

I personally can't see how it is different, both the sedan and the coupe are 3.5L RWD (except the AWD version).

Can anyone shed some light and confirm if there is really a different between the engine in the coupe vs sedan?

Thank you in advance.

Rafi

Depends on the year and transmission of the coupe, but if it's a revup, it is a different motor. Also depends on if your sedan is a 2003 or a 2003.5.

There are slight differences depending on very specific models.

HI,

Thank you for quick reply. I understand the Rev-up engine came in 2005+

But any VQ35DE should bolt up, correct? there might be some intake, cams, and few others that might not bolt, but the block and heads should be the same.
now please correct if I am wrong.

I have access to a free Maxima 3.5 engine, I am planing to take just the block and the heads and swap all other components over such as intakes, injectors, and all the external components from the block and head, shouldn't that give me a working engine that will bolt onto the car?

Even a VQ35DE from the sedan should bolt up, and if it doesn't bolt up, nissan would have given the engine a different code similar to what they did when they changed it to VQ35HR

Just brain storming.

Thank you,

Rafi

This is a great question, I'm somewhat in the same boat; I'm looking for all possible "plug-and-play" swaps for a 2005 Sedan (post 11/04 engine, car was made 03/05) but am curious as to what engine codes/cars I can rip one off of and just drop it in without having to change any harnesses, etc.

The coupes go something like this
03-04 DE non rev up for auto + manual - Variable valve timing on intake only, you can see this by the cam cover plates.
05-06 DE rev up for manual only - VVT on both intake and exhaust (autos still had non rev up)
07+ is HR easily spotted with duel intakes
I am quite sure that 03-04 Sedans have non rev up (I checked when sourcing my engine but it was a while ago)
Also the maxima or any other FWD VQ's will not work simply because the engine mount bolt holes on the block are in different positions - The FWD block will not bolt on to our mounts.
