Looking for my first G... What to look for ?
Hey guys... Used to be in the Audi VW scene. Always was a fan of the G35 coupes so now i may pick one up.
What are some issues to look out for?
I notice seats usually have the rips, and my buddy said the 2003's tend to burn oil? I know they are chain driven for timing which is a plus. But any other common mechanical defects to watch out before purchasing.
Any info is greatly appreciated

So firstly the G is an awesome car, that being said there are some flaws. All years can burn oil, 05-06 with a manual transmissions were more common, although I have an 03 that drinks oil too. It's an old car so it's bound to happen
if the cars lowered you're going to want to buy a camber kit so you don't chew through tires like crazy, and even if it's not lowered it's a good idea.
I then than that it's like buying any other old luxury car, going to be expensive, just look for the typical things you'd look for in a used car, definitely get it checked by a mechanic beforehand

Timing chains/tensioners. They chew through the tensioner guides all the time, and if let go long enough will wear through the other guides as well. Really not too tough to replace them, but it does require some tools. There are several tsbs for this issue with pretty much anything Nissan related anymore. Most of them show that it's the secondary chains and tensioners from what I recall. A Nissan tech buddy of mine claims the problem was originally in the chains. He said the edges of each like had a very slight barb on it which eats through the guides. Not sure if that's true but I think so considering Nissan did update the part number on the chain and not the guides.
Also, they are very common to get air in the cooling system. Heater will cut in and out, mostly works when revving, cold when idling. Just bleed it
