TINT Question in Pennsylvania

Driving through a small town called Pennsburg in PA the other night and I was pulled over for my tint. Granted, my tint is 5% all around. I was given a warning and he said come by the station within 15 days or I will get a ticket.

As he went back to his car and then came back, I asked him what percent tint I could have on the driver and passenger side as I know (or thought) that it could be any % on the back and back side windows. He said that it could not be any % on the back and back sides. Is this right? My intention was to re-do the driver and passenger with a 20 or 30%.

Lowest level of tint allowed in PA is 70% on all glass for a sedan type car. Only SUV's are allowed to have any percent on the back windows. Cars are still held to 70%

Given that glass has natural impurities, and generally registers around 75-80% VLT when you put a meter on bare glass, it pretty much means the law was written so that ZERO tint is allowed on any window.

Basically...any tint = possibly ticket.

Wow, and I thought the 50% for front windows in VA was strict. Basically I'd put 35% and call it a day like everybody else.

I had 35% on mine and never got pulled over. I was told by the tint shop this is the lowest allowed by PA law in the front 2 windows.

Members may be right, but get the law in writing keeping it in your G!

Bottom line, check with Dept. of Motor Vehicles for the actual law pertaining to tint. Get a booklet or whatever you need so the next time you get pulled over you can show the officer you're within the law...once it's taken car of! 3-M has a new clear tint that knocks down 90% of the harmful rays which will keep your interior looking like new and cool. My next car will have that on all windows including the windshield!
